Ask a Question

I'd like to know what the best Tumble dryer to get and if anyone knows of any good deals coming up?

Difficult to answer without knowing your price bracket, the size dryer you need ie 7kg. 8kg 9kg etc and whether you have a preference for certain brands or not. The one thing I would say thou is get a condenser dryer as you don't need to vent that and they are available from about £180 in Currys.

Hi CaroleBallard

This 9kg Hotpoint Aquarius one at Currys is highly rated by buyers (8.4 out of 10 stars) and good value for a 9kg capacity at £219.99.

I suggest using it as your benchmark, and see if you can beat it.

Don't forget Currys offer free delivery too.

Johnny Aye, free delivery with very selected slots.

I ordered a washing machine the other day and the only free slot was for 5 days later from 7am-7pm.

If I wanted it any earlier, or within a certain timeframe, I would have had to pay £30-£45.

TheChimp That seems reasonable to me for a good price and free delivery.

Could you find your washing machine anywhere else cheaper with faster delivery? I doubt it.

But if you could, Currys would match the cheaper price!

It's a shame John Lewis is scrapping its “never knowingly undersold” price promise, leaving Currys to take up that mantle.

TheChimp Yes I found that when ordering my Fridge/Freezer. AO most of the slots were free (others £5) , Marks Electrical all free (even next day ). Currys for the next 10 days £30 - £40 ! It is a lot on the cost price and should always be taken into account .

Golfforall Currys have always used underhanded practices though, so the free delivery scam didn't surprise me.

It doesn't seem reasonable to me, Johnny

If you are offering free delivery, don't be restricting my options and then try to charge me £45 for the convenience.

Edit ... And I've just had a text from them saying that they could be here anytime up to 8:30pm when the slot was 7am-7pm.

I don't know why I bothered with these cowboys again.

If they're here after 7pm, I will just refuse delivery and get my my money back. I hate companies like Currys taking the absolute pee.

As I see it, if I want the best price with free delivery I need to be flexible. Otherwise I need to be willing to pay more.

To be cost efficient, keeping their (and my) costs down they need to deliver lots of items from the same truck, on the same day, in the same area.

If I want my own delivery truck, with just my item on it, at a particular time and day, I expect to pay extra, because I am putting the costs up.

I had a good experience with Currys Click & Collect this week, I ordered online, got an email saying my item was ready to collect, parked in a marked bay outside the store, sent Currys a message to say I’d arrived at the store with my order number and car reg number, and left my car boot open as instructed. Out it came, within 5 minutes, and was put straight into the boot. Job done. No contact. No face mask necessary. Great.

Johnny TBH Currys were the same price (as were Argos and Marks Electrical ). Marks Electrical no stock till 27th , Argos no delivery slot (free) till next week . Could have had it today from AO for £5 but opted for Monday (free ) .

Next free delivery slot from Currys was all day 30 Nov , all the others to then were £30 - £40 .

Currys are very naughty IMO as they "imply " free delivery but it appears it is rarely free and mostly a ridiculous £30 -£40 .

Johnny I needed installation and recycling (which of course you have to pay for too), so I didn't have an option.

As Golfforall says, it's a con job marketing scheme by Currys.

If it comes 1 minute past 7pm, I'll be sending the washing machine back. I can cope with opening the old one up with a knife until I get a replacement from somewhere else.

TheChimp There's no scam and no con. Rather Currys make it totally obvious to the consumer before they purchase on what day(s) they can get free delivery. The consumer can choose whether to accept that deal or not, or to purchase elsewhere.

There's a pandemic on. Delivery drivers are busier than ever. It's cold. It's wet. Black Friday will mean even more deliveries to do. They probably feel like Colin Baker right now

You're not quite getting it, Johnny

They shouldn't be able to say it's free delivery on the page where the product is. And then when you go to buy it and go to checkout, there's very limited slots and they say you have to pay £45 for your preference.

I do get it.

I just don't agree with you on this one.

Given their rock bottom prices, low profit margins, and the Currys price promise to match any other price you can find, I think their free delivery offer is very reasonable. You get what you pay for. It's the limited slots that help them keep their prices down.

Johnny So Currys shouldn't be advertising 'free delivery' when it's very limited.

And as for their Price Match Guarantee, they normally have models that are exclusive to Currys, so the price match wouldn't count.

I'm surprised that you have been sucked in by them.

I haven't been sucked in by anyone.

Currys sell thousands of appliances that are identical to those sold elsewhere.

If you can find another retailer that:

a) sells your washing machine at a lower price than Currys

b) delivers it free

c) delivers it faster

d) has more free delivery options that suit you better

e) will install it for you (extra £)

f) will take your old one away (extra £)

Use them if you dare!

And please let us know us know who they were, how much you saved vs Currys, and whether you were happy with the service provided.

Out of interest, what model did you buy? 😊

Johnny As I said try AO - ticks all your boxes , most deliveries are free and even next day on a Sunday (today ) its only £5 - and as you well know price match does not include delivery charges . Methinks you are over egging Currys for some reason ?

Of course you will not find a Logik appliance any cheaper elsewhere as it is Curry's own brand and not sold anywhere else !.

I'm not over egging them.

Currys provide a service for a low price.

Not always the best service perhaps, but as I keep saying, for that one needs to be willing to pay a higher price.

People cannot reasonably expect 'first class' when they only pay for 'economy'.

I just think "con, scam", or the like, is neither true nor fair comment, and I am calling it out.

Johnny Do you work for Currys or have an affiliation with them?

As I've said more than once, free delivery shouldn't be offered if it's not actually free (unless you have to take a bad delivery slot).

I'm wasn't going to pay £45 delivery just because I wanted a dedicated delivery time.

Let me say this AGAIN, Currys shouldn't be offering fast and free delivery when it's nothing of the sort.

I'm just waiting for 19:01 tomorrow so that I can send the washing machine back.

Hello! There's a pandemic.

You got a free delivery slot within 5 days, AND A CHEAP PRICE.

You also knew and accepted when delivery would be when you placed your order.

You have not been conned or scammed.

No I don't work for, and am not affiliated with, Currys.

Bored now. Out.

Johnny I'm not saying that I've been conned or scammed because I agreed to the terms.

What I am saying is that Currys shouldn't be advertising free and fast delivery when the options are so limited. And if you want a reasonable delivery date/time slot, you will be paying £30/45.

And don't be putting it down to a pandemic because that doesn't wash with me when Currys didn't say anything about it when ordering.

And my terms for delivery were 7-7pm, not 20:30.
