I started a thread recently about neighbourliness seems to have died a death. Have just seen on the news that the poor old guy who was savagely beaten in his home has died in hospital. 98 years old. What an awful end to a life that began in the first world war. A neighbour said they hadn't seen him for 20 years as he couldn't get about so easily now. What???? That someone can admit they didn't look in on him in all that time drives me to despair, almost as uncaring as the lout(s) who broke in. And as for them, beating up a guy of 98? How can someone turn into a monster capable of doing that? What harm could he have done that they felt the need to cause him such harm? My stomach is roiling with despair and anger.
That's desperately sad. I'm someone who likes to keep themselves to themselves but we have an elderly neighbour who has fairly regular patterns with going out each day. I like to think that if that changed we'd check in on him.
It's disgusting and makes me very angry too - but for the second time today I'm being a little pedantic - as the first world war ended over 100 years ago, a person dying aged 98 couldn't have been born during it. (even allowing for some sources saying WW1 ended officially in 1919).
Sorry, I went back two years from 18 rather than forward, he would of course have been born in 1920 not 1916. I'm not usually bad at maths lol!
lynnibis I hadn't realised it was you Lynn - but an easy mistake to make. Please don't think I am nit picking I have this habit of automatically doing mental arithmetic - that just jumped out at me. 
davidstockport i am the same with words, I hate seeing the English language misused and misspelled. I walk along the high street and can't help noticing things, my family think it's funny. I saw stationary instead of stationery, where they sold the stuff! Also sirlion steak on a restaurant menu. I really hate hearing people say everythink instead of everything!
lynnibis Stationary and stationery are my pet peeves too - I see them misspelt more often than correctly.
I just couldn't believe this goof at my local hospital, I actually took a picture so I could check when I got home, I also checked with google maps and it had been there for over a year.
