Lots if not most supermarkets have been offering lunch deals so this is nothing new. I probably will buy one at some point.

If I'm passing and I want some food, it would be an option.

I wouldn't go out of my way to get one though.

You can get yourself a whole weeks worth of lunch for one meal deal, so it is all about connivence.

That’s not much different to what they already do. Don’t see it at anything positive or new.

I'll admit I only go to Waitrose for the free coffee mainly or if I've been sent a voucher to use. I'd typically buy 3 or 4 cheap items either their rare competitively priced items or short life reduced items and then get a coffee too. In that way its very good value. The last time I did a large shop in Waitrose was probably 8 years ago and that was due to a large voucher to use. It's a very uncompetitively priced shop. I used to do the spend £10 and get a free paper offer but that was stopped so spend even less in there nowadays.

BonzoBanana Many, many years ago, I used to use my Waitrose card to get 10% off my grocery bill and got my money's worth. Plus the free hot drink and cake monthly. I haven't been to a Waitrose store for years.

I rarely go to Waitrose but occasionally I do. I would buy a meal deal if it was what I wanted at the time and good value. My Waitrose card use to give me offers but I haven’t used it enough recently to be sent any.

£5 seems a lot for a meal deal but i guess other supermarkets are charging around the same these days. I bet waitrose will have some nice options to pick from so will possibly try if i'm close to one

Depends where you are. I have a co-op members card and it’s £3.50 for a meal deal. £4.50 without. So cheaper than £5.

I go to Waitrose regularly for my shopping and my husband always gets a free coffee. We also use our weekly vouchers. I am not convinced this is the best meal deal around. You get a free drink already so you probably don’t need the meal deal one.

It'll probably happen sooner or later but not in a hurry.

Thanks for the heads-up. I could have sworn Waitrose did a meal deal in the past... Turns out it actually used to do a £5 lunch meal deal a few years ago, it was called a "Lunch for Today" bag. I guess an example of journalistic misinformation that this is their 'first ever meal deal for £5'...

Wow. I wouldn't mind spending £5 for this lot. I don't recall ever seeing this promotion in the past.

Thanks Tom for your brilliant research.

To be honest you can buy a lot of foods to make your own lunches for a whole week! Saves you having to spend £5 each time!

Unless you can afford to do so and cannot be bothered cooking foods lol

I pop to Waitrose to buy a hot chocolate from their cafe & use their toilet on my 2.5 mile walk from work into Sheffield centre, I buy my IRWINS IRISH SODA BREAD there as very few supermarkets sell it,Morrisons used to but I can't seem to find any lately!

I also buy Mirrin,Miso Paste & Nescafe Latte,Twinings Teabags when on offer...Then walk over the road to Aldi & do rest of my shopping then walk into town & catch bus across the city home..
