I Want a Coffee Machine, but Which One?

Other

Hi Folks,

First let me say I have googled, surfed and compared but am still no nearer to deciding!

I know expensive isn't necessarily the best and I want something relatively simple to use, not taking up too much space, pods not too expensive, obviously good taste and mainly for cappuccino, latte, hot chocolate etc.

Does anyone use dolce gusto, lavazza, nespresso. Any gripes or praise?

Your comments will be most welcome and I will let you know what I decide with your help.

I've got a De Longhi that uses ground coffee and pods (although the pods look more like soft round pillows instead of plastic encase pods) I love the machine and the end results but the coffee isn't cheap. There is one particular model/brand on the market that uses generic pods from Aldi with good reviews but I can't remember it. I am sure someone else will add to the thread. This pic shows what I buy. Thanks angemski I haven't seen anything like that. I will have to look into it a bit more. I always have trouble making decisions......probably a Libran trait, weighing up the scales and all that. There seems to be so much choice for everything these days, especially electrical goods. Think I will have a cup of tea before I am back off to work in 30 minutes!

I have a Dolce Gusto at home, a Nespresso in works kitchen and a Tassimo in the office. Dolce Gusto, you can get loads of compatible pods at a very reasonable price, downside you have to manually judge the amounts of each pod as it doesn't stop until you make it. Nespresso, is just coffee, you can get a milk frother but defeats the object. Tassimo has loads of varieties, very strong coffee, automatically reads the barcode on each pod so distributes correct amount of liquid, downside you can only use their own pods, no pod is compatible due to the barcode system. Lavazza seem more and more difficult to get hold of recently a lot of people have said, but that's my only knowledge of them

Thanks Elise, it sounds on the surface as if the Tassimo is best but I am not prepared to pay a fortune for capsules and it seems they have been very clever to introduce the bar code system. I also do not like overly strong coffee.

As I was doing research I think I read that there is a Dolce Gusto now that does auto stop so that sounds promising. Nespresso sounds a non runner. Thanks everso for your input. Sometimes there is just too much choice to choose, if that makes sense 🤔.

Lynibis I had the same issue when I bought mine at home, too much choice, think I have only used it a dozen times at most. Glad they have an auto-stop option now, that is one of the things that really bugged me, judging millilitres in a glass is harder than it looks and I never ended up getting it right. Dolce Gusto has some nice iced tea and hot chocolate varieties too and have the most compatible pods out of all of them

So we have owned the Dulce Gusto, the Lavazza and the Nespresso machines and I have found that although that the Lavazza does not have a great variety, we have only been able to find 2 different options and I found that they have been the most expensive out of all the machines for pods. The Dulce Gusto is amazing and has a huge variety of pods, we buy the ASDA brand one that has just come out which is cheaper and then B&M and Poundland also sell another brand that fits in the machine that is also very affordable. Out of all 3 machines I would go for this one for sure. Nespresso is also nice but not as much variety in my opinion. The Tassimo also looks like they have a good variety but I have never tried them so I am not sure.

Wow, thanks so much for your advice. It is really helping and it seems from the advice I have read on here and reviews that it probably will be the dolce gusto. Thanks again 😙

RebeccaAnd25138 could you possibly look at the Gusto that is on in the deals at the moment and let Lynibis know if this model is any good?

To add to the mix, we have a DG machine and only buy the black coffee pods not the cappuccino types because the boxes contain half milk and half coffee pods. If you buy only the black coffee and warm your own milk you get twice as many drinks per box. Also the milk pods are sweetened already, sometimes too sweet

That is a really good piece of advice, thanks Auntielettie.

How about the BKON TX craft brewer? It only costs around $13,000 and can make coffees, loose-leaf teas, cocktails and more inside a vacuum brewing chamber. It extracts more of the soluble flavor elements with unmatched consistency to elevate the consumer’s experience of what each coffee and tea naturally offers - http://bkonbrew.com/singlecup/craft-brewer/ ☕ 😋 🤑

Resurrected this one to say that I finally settled for a Tassimo. So far not tremendously impressed with it. The costa coffee tastes nothing like it and is terribly strong. I will persevere however as I have other pods to try. Beginning to wish I had gone with a Dolce Gusto though!
