Working From Home Forever?

In the News

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/05/12/twitter-tells-employees-they-can-work-from-home-forever.html

Twitter tells employees they can work from home ‘forever’

forever? As in forever, for the rest of their employed lives with the company? I’m sure this will make a lot of people happy. I wonder how many other companies will make the same move?

Would you like for your company to make this possible for you?

I miss the office interaction, although I would only normally go to the office once a fortnight and stay overnight. Whilst we have been using Skype and Teams, it's not the same. I can't see WFH changing anytime soon due to the hotdesking issue in the office.

Yes it’s best to allow office staff to continue working from home where possible, especially if there will be restrictions and disruptions to travel. Not a lot of managers are keen to return to face the music quite yet

Yes however it’s difficult to get a work life balance with my 3 year old also in the house. I really want to return to work from home however being able to concentrate without distraction is hard sometimes. It will be easier to do so once my child is back in nursery whenever that may be but I wouldn’t want to take the risk sending him back too soon and we don’t know when they will open back up for normal workers.

I think for Moms it would be great to work from home forever...I do not see how it will benefit everyone.

Lol definitely only for those who enjoy motherhood. Not all mothers enjoy it, and some have admitted enjoying being a working mum...

I think working from home permanently should be an option for people, if possible. It cuts out travelling time and costs and helps the environment by reducing carbon emissions.

Wow, that could be handy for some people I guess. I don‘t know what will be happening with my job as I only started so recently but it isn’t something I would be able to do from home as I work in a main vehicle dealership. In my old job I could have worked from home but I doubt they would make that permanent. I wonder if it means for the rest of their employment they get to work from home! Lucky them I guess but I think it would get boring after a while lol 🙂

I think this is a fantastic idea and I had an idea some employers would make this move it will save money in the long run but if everybody did this we will turn into a ghost town and that isn't really helpful for local trade

Good point Bargain28. It won’t help already ailing City Centres. It may however help to increase local trade in the suburbs.

Actually my partner’s boss never wanted employees to work from home , but he completely changed his mind after that , as realised that people do work from home as they would from the offices, so now he allowed him work from home regardless , it’s good as we are moving soon so that will be great , but I do feel for him as it’s nice to meet office colleagues at work , but will save him loads on travelling to work a month 🙂

It certainly suits tech firms to do this, as I am sure they have the right tech and security in place to do this. However, not all companies would be able to function in the same way, usually as they will need an upgrade in systems, and injection of cash to do the updates, etc.

The current situation has changed the opinions of employers. I am sure they probably thought that the workers would sit around drinking coffee and wasting time - which hasn't happened. It is saving money on both sides so it's possible to continue. I've been able to work from home but I wouldn't want to do it forever. I miss going out for lunch, meeting friends and the fresh air. There's going to be a lot of Vitamin D deficiency at the end of this lockdown.

Yes, I've currently been just as productive and busy working from home as I would be at office. Despite the many distractions at home I've still done a good days work
