Ask a Question

What's the worst thing you have found out when buying a property?

I'm expecting some gross ones so don't disappoint me 😂

We've been lucky when buying houses that we've never found anything horrible. Worst thing we found was the the previous owners tenant had left a bunch of junk down the side of the house but they fixed it quickly.

MrsCraig Good that they came and sorted it and didn't start a dispute! I've heard of that happening a lot.

SamGoodship they had rented it out so it was their tenant that had done it. I didn't mind if the didn't remove it as I would have taken it to the dump. I wanted them to know what their tenant had done. It was sorted the day after we moved in.

SamGoodship well I moved into this house..which I have obviously moved from..hadn't been living there long..when I turned over in bed and the end of it felt heavy..so I sat up because it was so uncomfortable to find a grey haired lady with a white blouse and black choker braid necklace sat there. Her hair was tied up so elegantly..she said everything will be ok and she got up and drifted pass me.through the

bedroom wall..her skirt was pale blue. I felt it brush past me..that was 30 years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday x

Then a few days later I was upstairs and I could smell smoke/fire..I came rushing down and nothing was un towards..

Next day..I saw the neighbour directly next door and said I had a weird experience..he said you don't know do you..he told me..he was in his kitchen washing up and in his window he could see an orange light flickering and realised it was a fire..but by the time he went around and got help.the man had died in the house with the fire.then a few weeks later..I could here my children running around upstairs..so I went up to see why they hadn't been downstairs..they were fast asleep..as soon as I went down..they were running around again..went back up..totally asleep. Then a while later I saw this lady and she said you live there don't you..yes I replied. She then says to me I use to live there...have you heard the children running around upstairs x

jam45 We moved into a house one October. The following spring all the flea eggs, left in the carpet, from their dog hatched and bit us all over. A delayed nasty surprise!

Our first house came with lovely brown and yellow swirl carpets 😰 The kitchen had dark stained wood paneling and cowboy louvered doors. The bathroom was covered in pink tiles and a burgundy bathroom suite. Image

Lucky enough never had anything bad happen as have bought brand new but I know of a lady that was selling hers and the buyers kept messing her about right up to the day of moving, so she bought a few kippers and put them down the back of the radiators so the house would stink when they turned them on 😪.

Not so much a surprise as we knew from viewing but certainly mind boggling. Everything was green. EVERYTHING. Walls, wallpaper, tiles, bathroom suite, kitchen cupboards. even down to items that was left in the drawers/ cupboards. Every shade of green. Like they decided they liked green & just ran with it. It was overwhelming.

Glitterandgold I have never heard of a house painted entirely in green. Did the estate agent warned you in advanced? Did it fetch the full price or heavily reduced or not even sold? I am just being curious.

jam45 The lady who had lived here left it to her son after passing. It had been on the market for along time & so we put in a cheeky offer & he accepted. The location was perfect for us. It was a seriously stressful time tho, We moved in with a 18 month & 6 week old & pretty much had to do room by room. I couldn't have anything green in my home for years after lol.

Glitterandgold back in the 70’s there was a house where the owner loved the colour yellow. When my mum went to see the lady she took me along. I always remember the inside of the house as everything was different shade of yellow. Even the outside walls and front door too.

Glitterandgold Pleased for you and your family. The best bit you could see yourselves living there (I couldn't). Also you got rid of all the green colours.

Not my experience but a friend was buying a house with very lovely Victorian looking bathroom fittings BUT when she got the keys the whole bathroom suite had changed to 3 pieces that were not even the same colour

The previous owners had painted round their furniture and had laid flooring around it aswell. When they moved out we were left with huge blank walls and no flooring in certain areas 😳🤣🤔
