Why Do People Think They Can Just Leave without Paying ??

In the News

Police escort six diners back to restaurant after they refuse to pay £300 bill www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/police-escort-six-diners-back-32379468

Read this and was glad police made them come back and pay. Seem to see this in the news all the time , people leaving without paying

I don’t understand why people think they can do that , what’s your thoughts ?

Its the same at supermarkets A , people think they can just take what they want

I was just reading Primark are trying to combat this by putting stickers on their bags to stop people putting untagged items in their bag at checkout

Anyone without a sticker will be stopped by security , although i am not sure this will totally stop theft

Some addicts and proliific thieves just dont care and will walk out brazenly no matter what

Aenurse1 costs is honest folk a fortune too as the losses are passed on to us. I daresay that is a part of the high cost of living at the moment.

I feel if I was given food that was completely terrible then I would definitely be willing to leave without paying but would happily explain myself to police.

I definitely wouldn’t eat the food and then refuse to pay though.

Never did that, pretty scummy move.

They provide a service so you pay them. If you can't afford, go somewhere else.

A meal in a contract for service and goods and you can disagree with the quality maing it a contract and payment then becomes a civil matter. Of course there is also the theft element if you dont pay. Some people think they can complain and avoid payment.

People will try it as a lot of the time they get away with it. Some people also just dont feel guilt like most of us do.

There's always some that think they don't need to pay. Some companies will expect the low paid staff to balance the books at tge end of the night.glad the police were called

My daughter owns a pub and four young lads came in, ordered an expensive meal, ate it and left without paying. Luckily they were stupid and had sat wearing sweatshirts with the phone number of their company they work for on them. My daughter has cameras!

i've heard about that happening in my town too, if I have been served a meal which wasn't good then I would just let the place I was eating know.

Sounds to me like they’d already made their mind up they weren’t paying before they even had their food. Good on the 7th person for having the decency to stay and pay for his food. Doubt he’ll be eating out with those 6 others anytime soon. I really don’t know how people can do this r what makes them think it’s ok to actually do so. Shame on all 6 of them but hopefully being brought back in by police to pay their bill has taught them a valuable lesson

My wife works in a restaurant and the staff on minimum wage have this on a weekly basis and it comes out of there wages when it happens . My blood boils when its even shown on there wage slip that some thieving slime has walked without paying .

It's annoying when this happens. I used to work in a pound shop and customers would get there cards out so when you would turn to the till to click on card payment they would put their card away and run out of the shop. I wasn't allowed to leave the till area so would call for management to chase them to their cars and get money. Some were successful and some weren't.
