WiFi Help!!!!

Ask a Question

My wifi has been playing up and I’m not sure what to do. Sometimes the signal drops and then comes back again or it’s just weak signal. We have a tp link extender but I don’t think it seems to help any ideas?

Is there anything metal near by that might be throwing it’s signal? Have you ran a check on it from your providers site to ensure it’s at the level of service it should be. Maybe contact your provider though.

I sometimes have issues with my signal dropping but when it happens, I just turn he router off at the wall and leave it for 20 minutes and restart it and that seems to do the trick.

pato I’ve tried to restart the router a number of times but still have the same problem 😢

Tk3 It sounds as though the issue is with your provider then, as RegularComper90 mentioned, simply unplugging the router for 10 seconds would normally work and if that didn't work leaving it for longer should have reset the the router, you can check your speeds using a broadband checker which will tell you how your router is preforming.

Simply unplugging and plugging back in your router after 10 seconds often does the trick. 🙂

Contact your provider they should be able to provide some help and see what the problem is

Ring your provider and tell them the problems you’re having. If it doesn’t reach a high speed ask for a reduced tariff or change provider.

if you never had this problem before (so it’s only started to happen recently), you should contact your provider to find out if there are issues in your area

Are you sure its the wifi and not the device you are using ? check by using other devices if you can

Tk3 If you are with Virgin Media then your speed is terribly low, I would suggest that you contact Virgin Media and complain as you should be getting a better.

1-5 Mbps for checking email and browsing the web. 15-25 Mbps for streaming HD video. 40-100 Mbps for streaming 4K video and playing online games. 200+ Mbps for streaming 4K video, playing online games, and downloading large files

pato thanks! I will give them a call tomorrow. Appreciate the help as I’m so confused regarding this! The speed test was done via my phone- does that change anything?

Tk3 It shouldn't really change anything especially if yours was the only device connected, give them a call.

Tk3 check the info on this page and compare what you are paying for, this'll give you an idea of the average speeds you should expect, https://www.virginmedia.com/shop/broadband/speeds

Be sent out! ☺️ but also checked, we are on the m200 tariff.

Tk3 Great hopefully they will sort it out for you sooner rather than later, as that's less than 10% of your average speed, also tell them you are looking for compensation as they have not been adhering to the contract.

Give your provider a call. We're with BT and although we didn't have a problem as such, 4 of us either WFH or home schooling, when we did a speed test we weren't getting anything like the speed we should have been.

An engineer came out and found a fault in a junction box under the road, he replaced it and our speed went up from 35mB to almost 70mB.

They also gave us £50 for the inconvenience ... so defo worth a call!

Is 14.3Mbps Download - 5.2 Mbps Upload good? That will depend on what you're paying for. There are many many people who would sell their souls for that speed - but others who are paying for much higher speeds who would not tolerate it.

davidstockport I am! I thought the same but my brother suggested it was okay :/. I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks this!

Exactly -depends what you are paying for . Check that first . Then if all the family ( 3 , 4 , 5 ? ) are using their devices at the same time it will seem even slower or even appear to freeze (certainly if live streaming or downloading ) .

You may need to limit live streaming to one or two devices at a time ? (remember Smart TVs if used in some modes can also be considered a "device")

Think of the data coming into your house as like your water supply , there's only so much ! Turn all the taps on and flush the loo then watch them all slow to a trickle . Data is much the same (depending on what you are paying for ) there is only so much that is available at any one time .
