Will You Be Going to the Hairdressers, or Attempting It Yourself?
Ask a Question
Now that the hairdressers are opening, what are your thoughts? I'd prefer to do mine myself as I've got long hair and it's quite easy to manage. I personally don't think it's safe.
I bought hair clippers few months back to cut my sons hair which was getting in his eyes. It was hard to find any in stock! Because a lot of people bought it cheap from argos etc and then tried to sell it on Ebay x2 or even x3 the original price! I usually do my hair myself anyway and can give myself a bit of a trim when needed. Also there will be waiting lists for weeks and I'm guessing prices will shoot up. My colleague oap used to have his haircut for £6 now its £12,50! I usually would take my son to barbers where it was already £10-11 each time for a childs haircut. I'm dreading to think what they will be charging now...
CherylParry I suppose they have to factor in the safety equipment costs etc. I'm rather fussy with my hair anyway but I have tried expensive hairdressers like Tony&guy etc it looked nice but it wasn't a miracle or very far off from some cheaper hairdressers...I think I'll stay clear for a while..
A while ago I had a text from my hairdresser telling me that she was hoping to reopen on 4th July. Since then I have been contemplating the situation and the possibility of a second lockdown. What I really want is a perm (and short hair) as I believe it suits me better but I have decided that I shall let it carry on growing and when it's long enough I shall put it in a pony tail and when longer still then I shall plait it. I can't justify all that time spent in a salon for the perm, thinking of all those other people coming in and out, some of who could be carrying the infection, and I don't suppose I can have a wee either! As far as I understand it you can't have a blow dry and certainly no air conditioning as both of these circulate the air - but we would still be breathing the same air! So, I am staying home
I'll be ordering hair straightening kits off ebay, then I'll dye my hair. Be just as good as going to the hairdressers.
CherylParry It reminds us how much they overcharge, when you can buy all the things you need yourself for far less.
I’ve chopped my fringe twice since lockdown. Can’t wait to get an appointment when my hairdresser can open again. There will be a backlog with everyone who already had appoints in over lockdown so could be long enough. Im desperate for a cut and to get my colors done.
I haven’t had my hair cut for about 6 years so I don’t mind lol but my partner can’t wait to get his done, he has an appointment for Sunday and it has gone up from £10 to £13 for a men’s hair cut.
I don't understand all the hysteria around people desperate to get to the hairdressers. Who cares when in lockdown, not going out socially, why does it matter if your hair is a little untidy. As it grows tie it back. Use straighteners or curlers and if it is a bit dry and fuzzy use coconut oil
I’m naturally blonde and I’ve been dying my hair black for around 6 years straight now... i found out I was pregnant back in January so I’ve not dyed my hair since just before Christmas... my blonde roots are about 3 inches long now I’m waiting until I actually have a purpose for doing my hair, like actually seeing other people.. otherwise it seems pointless!
My partner went to the barbers yesterday (we live in Ireland) and had to queue for an hour outside. He said the safety measures were impressive and he looks like a new man!
I'm ok because I have some clippers, but the wife certainly needs her hair cut. She resembles this atm ...
A local barber shop had quite a queue this morning, both barbers look very vulnerable to covid 19, one is more elderly with I think a weak heart and the other is obese and smokes like a chimney and possibly late 40s. I walked past and there was 4 people waiting outside. I used to use the same barber myself but now I'm used to hair clippers I can't see the point of wasting that money. Good luck to them though. Now that I think about it I don't remember seeing any face masks on the customers waiting outside and they looked like they were within 2 metres of each other. I do feel like a lot more people have had covid 19 in the UK than people realise as I definitely had it and was in hospital for about one week on oxygen because of my lung damage yet I'm not recognised as having it because the tests weren't positive. I'm hoping that even if people completely disregard the rules the people most vulnerable have already died and the rest of the population will generally be ok from now on. So however stupid the population is the main damage is already done.
I won't be in a rush to go, I'm in a similar position to you. I'm certainly not going to be going to the hairdressers just yet.
I've been cutting my own hair for years. The last time I had it professionally done was nearly 2 years ago and that was because my MIL and granny paid for it as my baby shower present.
I did my husbands hair with some clippers about 2 weeks ago because it was getting ridiculously long and he was sick of it. It looks fine and will last until he goes back to work in August after which time it will hopefully be easier to get an appointment. My son needs his fringe cut, but I do that at home for him.
I always saw the hairdresser as a luxury and now they will need to put their prices up it will be even more of a luxury for me!
Yeah I will do eventually, I recently cut my hair and it's still short. I'll let it grow for another 2-3 weeks then I'll go to my local barber
I really need a good trimming as well as my partner. I can wait, longer hair on me looks nice and tidy as if it was shorter.
Thank you for all your comments but unfortunately it appears someone else already had this post, I did have a look before adding and could not find anything. So thanks for the great response much appreciated.
I'm lucky my hair grows very slowly it doesn't actually need cutting yet. My kids could do with having their hair cut will just do front stop it going in their eyes no one will see yet they can wait until going back school in September to have done properly
