I read this headline and thought the world has gone mad !
A woman has been fined £400 by her council after she collected litter and put it in a bin outside her home.
Olivia Post did a bit of clearing up after foxes left rubbish strewn all over her road in Battle, West Sussex.
However, the next day a council official knocked on her door and fined her £400 on the spot.
It emerged animals had again pulled the rubbish out and council snoops had gone through it, found her address and accused her of fly tipping.
You would think they would have better things to do with their time, luckily the council have seen sense and reimbursed her !

I am glad this story has a happy ending. I won't bother to pick up rubbish strewn all over my road.
jam45 I don't think many people would, which makes it more annoying that someone was penalised for a good deed. Plus reading the article, she said the guy who knocked on the door was really intimidating. He managed to get through while other services couldn't due to bad weather !
This serves as a warning that anything containing your name, address, phone number or anything identifying you is best removed from anything you're discarding. I recently saw on TV a man had been fined for fly tipping because it was probable someone had set him up, by removing things from his bin and flytipping them.
This is ridiculous! Councils are rubbish themselves, someone needs to put them in the bin

Maybe if the council did there jobs and got people to pick litter up property it's a disgrace the amount of rubbish lying about
That lady should be commended for clearing up. My husband used to pick up all the rubbish in our road after the foxes or seagulls tore open the bin bags.
I often pick up rubbish in the immediate vicinity of my house as I don't like living in a rubbish dump on view through my kitchen window. I make sure I do it just prior to the bin men arriving as they never arrive before a certain time, that way it cannot be got at by animals. Although it is 'animals' who cause the litter in the first place!
Nadiaparveen This fine was just as ridiculous as the Covid fines. I get people don't want to sue the Council as it'd be costly for them, but she should have done it rather than willingly pay £400 for a scam.

Councils are nuts they always stick up council tax but don't do much for it where we live they keep missing our bins
The country is broken and they'll punish people who try to do some good. It's upside down/clownworld. Sigh.
