Young Woman Wants over 40s Banned from Nightclubs

Other

Yesterday morning a 22 year old woman was on daytime TV calling for this and on the opposite side of the debate was Tony Blackburn. She felt that watching 'old people' on the dance floor was embarrassing and cringe.

Well, if it is, that is surely her problem not theirs!

There are many 40 plus people who only look 30 and enjoy an active night out, why should they be relegated to pubs, restaurants and cinema?

Personally you wouldn't ever catch me in a nightclub, even in my teens and 20s they held no appeal for me but her attitude really grated and I wish I could see her forbidden entry to a club when she is 40!!

And there was me thinking that ageism, along with all the other isms were frowned upon in this day and age.

What a stupid woman!!

I am one of those people that is 40 but I look 30 and I love to go out dancing! We haven’t done anything like this since having a child (and obviously the pandemic) but we hope to one day have a great night out again.

The folly of youth. She too will be 40 one day, let's hope she learns a little by then.

As for old people dancing, I agree as far as I am concerned, on the few occasions I venture onto the dancefloor it is a sight to scare the horses.

I look like I'm trying to stamp out a campfire.

Great analogy BL..me as well. Too long with a guitar strapped around my shoulder. Keen/competent musician but two left feet.

And maybe the older nightclub goers would like to see younger generation well behaved.

My thoughts exactly. I'm only 27 and would rather party with those older than me than with people my own age or younger

This was my first thought, seeing young people acting in a way that I find cringe and embarrassing. Girls being sick in the gutter, lying on the floor legs akimbo showing all they have, peeing themselves, young men urinating in doorways, molesting females, being aggressive and starting fights and generally leaving a mess for others to clean up. Poor paramedics who have to deal with their drug and drink overdoses.

Of course this isn't all youngsters, nor are older folk exempt from this behaviour, but usually by 40 we have all learned to temper our behaviour.

If she feels that watching 'old people' dance is embarrassing she needs to take a looks at some of her own generation. You can dance or you can't dance it has absolutely nothing to do with age.

When you get to over 40 you dance like no one’s watching because your a lot more comfortable with who you are and don’t care what the younger ones think about you she must think she’s going to stay 22 forever

Mick82 I totally agree with you! I’m a lot more comfortable in my skin now I’m 40. All those insecurities I had when I was younger seem so trivial now.

The karma with this, if a ban is allowed - which I doubt, is that when she gets to 40 and still considers herself 'young' she could also find herself banned.

Just because you are young, doesn't mean you can dance!

She is not a wise woman.

Why did she get air time?

Would she stop John Travolta entering and dancing?

Why indeed. I believe these daytime tv channels deliberately wind people up by having controversial guests spout a load of nonsense.

I bet she would be first on the floor to dance WITH John Travolta.

I must admit that I think that about loads of the interviewees they have on that and This Morning. I am in love with my phone, I am living in a trisome, it should be called chest feeding, my 3 year old is non gender specific etc etc etc. I hate this stupid world sometimes and should be wearing a badge saying, stop the world I want to get off.

Lynibis That's why I don't watch them programmes. All the stuff happening in the world and they are discussing that some nobody 22yr old thinks older people shouldn't go to nightclubs. The worst was when some child who wanted to replace the bells in big ben with her voice.

People often say stupid things on daytime TV. She comes across as an immature 22 year old.

Although, in Worcester the cut off age appears to be 28 (at least in 2012). A women was banned from all the clubs in the area for being too old to wear skimpy outfits.

Totally agree, why should there be an age limit. If you still enjoy nightclubs then you should go at any age.

Not much difference there then! I have always thought nightclub /disco type dancing is kind of weird to watch. It has no beauty or skill to it, just people moving and jiggling around to equally weird music most of the time.

Dancing to me is is a skill as in ballet, ballroom and other choreographed movement.

I don't go clubbing anymore too difficult with 3 kids and so many local ones shutting but never had any problems with older people in fact as a teen we admired the few OAP that went I remember there being 2

I've never liked nightclubs not my thing at all but then I'm not really a drinker which I think is probably a requirement to enjoy nightclubs (or drugs maybe). People of any age can be cringe-worthy when it comes to dancing though. In a perfect world of nightclubs I suppose you would eliminate fat people, ugly people, people who can't dance, people who drink to excess, old people, rude and violent people etc then you end up with practically no one in the night club and the whole business is shut down.

Thing I find strange is that older people want to go clubbing with others that are young enough to be their children, I could think of nothing worse.

40 is still fairly young, especially when you consider the lifespan of people nowadays; some making it to 100. Even if it was old then why does it matter? If you want to have a dance on the dance floor at a nightclub, then go ahead I say. If others aren't happy then they could always go elsewhere. 🤷

I am in the "over 40" age group and agree we should be banned . Who wants to see the wobbly bits moving with a mind of their own when we "dance" , perhaps thinking we're cool ? Sorry oldies we had our chance . we were 20 once - let's not outstay our welcome 🤔

Golfforall I get tongue in cheek, but there are some people who feel their age and don’t go out. I thought you must be one of those. But I don’t want to watch wobbly bits of some overweight 40+. But a load of fit 20 year olds is a different thing all together.

I find there’s different places and clubs round here so cater for the older gen, we call them grab a granny night/places.

Come on you can’t blame her after all over 40’s are not young enough to know everything. LOL . Some youngsters make me cringe when I see them all squeezed into a skimpy outfit that leaves nothing to the imagination but I can’t judge all youngsters by some of their standards. Everyone is different and her attitude is ridiculous.

ch7leach although I started this topic and hated this young lady's stance, I have never enjoyed clubbing, even when young. It has always seemed rather tribal to me and how anyone can enjoy ears being blasted, no coherent conversation and drunks getting lairy is beyond me.

But no one should be banned from that behaviour due to age.
