Who do you bank with? I've not used Curve, but definitely recommend Starling - instant phone notifications of any spend, plus great for international purchases. It's worth having more than one card available and Starling would be my first choice for your next card.

Imnotcheap Same. I have no credit cards but have serval banks/debit cards. Useful to make use of multiple savings accounts. And Starling (debit card) is very useful.

MeestairChrees is starling the best for free spending abroad? (Obviously there’s a daily limit I understand they)

emailnoah I don't have the others to compare (I have Revolut but have have hardly used it), but it uses Mastercard's current exchange rate (it changes daily) which beats the daily exchange rate when converting currency - there are no fees for the conversion at all unlike normal bank cards.

So it's also great for buying online from other countries (make sure to disable currency conversion on PayPal, Amazon, Aliexpress, etc. and pay in the local currency).

The only daily limit is how much you take out of a cash machine (£300) which is similar to other banks.

I got the card/account just before I went on holiday last year and I'm so glad I did. No need to take any cash (though I did as a backup) and no need to choose how much to convert to another currency on a currency card. Make sure you spend in the local currency though - if you're ever given the choice to pay in pounds in another country, don't, or it will be their currency exchange rate that applies, and it'll cost you! That's when you realise just how much you're saving by using the card though!

It's also great to instantly see a notification on your phone that you spent money, and how much, often before even the receipt prints or a confirmation message on a website loads!

emailnoah I have a monzo card and this sounds v similar to starling and revolut.... instant notifications when spending, fee free spending abroad using Mastercard exchange rate and can withdraw up to £200 abroad per day without fees. Its also very easy to open savings accounts, I have an easy access account with 1.14% interest.

Its a physical contactless debit card. You download the app and you link all your other cards to it and you can spend on any card without having to carry around them all. You just choose the one you want in the app. And if you accidentally paid with the wrong card you can change the card up to 14 days after. It also has fee free international payments up to £300/ month I believe. It also allows you to pay bills, eg for HMRC, where they don’t allow credit cards, to pay by credit card.

Personally I think it's too much hassle but if anyone manages to claim this or simplifies the process then it's worth considering I guess

How much do you have to spend to get £10 cash?

You just have to make one transaction on your normal bank card. For example you could buy a 1p sim from amazon and get the £10

I have it, very useful, my Santander card charges me £1.5 for every transaction abroad and through Curve it's cheaper (better exchange rate) and no fees. Also has a better protection, when you buy something online credit card protect you on certain range like £50-£10000 for 3 months, Curve has its own policy where they protect you from £0 for 12 months (please check this first, but is much better).

Also very handy for me to deal with joint account, while in queue in shop I can switch on my app if it should charge my personal account or our joint.

So I simply stopped carrying debit, credit, joint and holiday cards and just use this one. Wish they supported Amex then I wouldn't carry wallet 🙂

It was really quick. It took around 2 days to arrive in the post, and the app lets you add your existing cards while you wait, so you can have it all setup and ready for use when the card arrives.

I use Curve and simple to use. The main advantage is that it is only necessary to carry one visa or master debit or credit card so your wallet or purse is not bulging. You can switch which card it debits on your app but you use the plastic one in the retailer. Should you misplace the Curve card you can freeze it on the app until it is found. If you lose it or the Curve card gets stolen you can cancel the card, as with any other, and whilst the replacement is in the mail you can still use the actual bank cards as these remain unaffected. Does not work with Amex though.

Have been using them for nearly 3 years and never let me down. Claimed over £130 in rewards over that time, been abroad, saved a fortune in currency exchange fees (including two transactions today), used it abroad in shops and ATMS. Can’t rate them highly enough, I tell everyone who asks (my Curve card is Red and made of metal so people ask) all about it. Nice to see them on this site.
