British Strawberries 1KG Only £2.95 at Aldi Instore

Available from The Sun
£2.95
Comment20

Instore only, subject to availability.

This unpredictable problem has been caused by the warmer weather that we've been bathing in over the past few months.

When this happens, farmers often choose to sell the fruits super cheap so that the stock doesn't go to waste, but it does leave them out of pocket.

Normally, the budget supermarket will order an exact amount but now they've snapped up 112 tonnes extra stock to help the farmers shift it.

Just to put that into perspective - that's another 9MILLION strawberries.

And they're paying the growers the same fixed-price for the fruit and has decided to sell bigger punnets for less instead.

At the moment, the store sells strawberries in tubs of 400g which cost £1.39. That means you'll need to spend £3.48 on two-and-a-half tubs to get a kilo.

The bigger strawberry punnets will cost only £2.95 a kilogram - a saving of £2.09.

Asda have 300g for £1.09, works out a bit more expensive but I couldn’t get through a kilo of strawberries on my own!

garygemmell I was gonna say that. Strawberries are only good for a few days and then they start to get rotten.

Even so, the rotten ones are good too. Cut 'em to pieces, add some (pure) wine, white sugar (not a fan of yellow sugar but it's still suggar) and leave it in the fridge for a while.

I bought like 2-3KG of strawberries for €2.50 and still haven't eat them all yet.

Alright price. I typically buy strawbs from an old fella that sells fruit/vegs down the road 2 days a week. Cheaper than supermarket prices and better quality.

The whole QC is entirely subjective so I don't take it too seriously when I see it on a package.

yes a kilo is a lot but you can make smoothies and Jam or you can just freeze them in batches

Freeze strawberries? I guess that's an option but in normal conditions they only lasts a few days before it starts getting out of shape.
