What is Iceland?
Iceland is one of UK’s fastest-growing and most innovative retailers, known to be one of the best companies to work for in the country. It was established in 1970 by its Founder and CEO, Sir Malcolm Walker. The company started out as a single shop in an attempt for Walker and another young and bored retailer to make a fortune. They initially started out with a capital of just £60 to pay for a month’s rent and launched the very first store in Oswestry Shropshire. Today Iceland Foods has more than 880 stores across the UK, a further 40 owned or franchised stores throughout Europe and an international export business.
The company has launched numerous promotions in stores such as Buy One Get One Free and Meal Deals on their selection of products for a set price. These have now been replaced and reduced with products offering bigger packs at the original prices. They also changed their pricing system with many products having their prices rounded up or down to the nearest multiple of 25p known as the Clear Cut Prices.

Does Iceland only sell frozen food?
No. Iceland sells a small selection of fresh vegetables and fresh meat. They also sell dairy items and dry goods. There are often deals and discounts to be found.
The supermarket chain does specialise in frozen food. However, many people think because something is frozen, it's "not posh". In recent years, supermarket founder and CEO Malcolm Walker has done a big push in raising the quality of goods on offer to attract more customers. Iceland Special Offers
Iceland has a permanent special offers page
Iceland is a favourite supermarket among members of Latest Deals. It has a permanent Offers page on its website. Featured brands include:
- Pizza Express
- Aunt Bessies
The supermarket tends to have larger products at reduced prices than big discounts, deals or sales. It also rounds prices down to the nearest 25p, to make things clear and easy to understand. You won't find many £10.99 offers, just £10.
We're in favour of this clear and responsible pricing strategy.
