Beauty treatments will feel more expensive than ever at the moment, especially with Christmas on the horizon. However, there are plenty of ways to cut the costs and save huge amounts. Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, said: ‘Perhaps it’s your New Year’s Resolution to spend less on beauty treatments and expensive beauty products, but you’re not sure where to start. Vernita has come up with some great tips, so I’ll let her take over from here!’

Vernita Ivelina, 26 from London who vlogs about beauty on YouTube, said:: ‘I’ve seen people watch expensive beauty maintenance videos on YouTube who end up believing they have to do the same. However the average person who is working for the typical pay in the UK will not generally be able to afford all these treatments or products.

‘These videos are nice to look at, but they’re not relatable for the everyday working person. To cut down on your monthly beauty costs, take a look at what you’re spending and ask yourself if the full amount is really necessary. Work out what you may be able to do yourself. Weed out what’s neccessary and what’s not. Decide what treatments are non-negotiable - I recommend picking between one and three. Everything else, try and do it yourself - and I have provided some tips below which will save you £100s each year.’

Save £700 A Year With DIY Gel Manicures

I like my nails being done, but I always struggled with going to the nail shop every two weeks and paying that consistent money. All I do generally get is a gel manicure, and that is something I can do at home. So what I did is I bought everything I needed. On Amazon, I got a manicure grooming kit for £8, a set of two pumice stones for £4, an acetone nail polish remover for £7.50, a 100 pack of nail foil gel wrap removers for £4, and a UV lamp for £9. The actual gel polish I got from 516 Polish and you can just get one in your favourite colour from £5, making it really affordable. The average cost of a manicure with gel polish application is £30 according to Treatwell, so that’s £60 a month - or £720 a year - to get my nails done professionally. Alternatively, I can pay just over £30 for DIY supplies and they’ll pay for themselves in just a matter of weeks, saving me £100s.

Choose Your Waxes Carefuly - Save £360 A Year Doing Arms & Legs At Home

I bought all the wax strips and supplies I need to do my own successful wax at home. I got a pack of 100 waxing strips for £4 and a 3-pack of silicone wax applicator sticks for £8. I wax under my arms myself, and I wax my legs myself. That’s possible for me, but there are other areas I’d rather go to a professional for. I can cut down costs by doing most of the waxing myself and then only getting a professional to do certain areas. Underarm waxing can cost £10 and leg waxing by itself can cost £20, so you’re saving £360 a year by waxing these areas yourself at home.

Save £600 A Year On Body Scrubs With Exfoliating Shower Mitt

I maintain my skin by using an exfoliating body mitt for £10 on Amazon, which I think is less messy and more hygienic than an exfoliating scrub. A scrub is basically a big pot of sugar and oil that just sits in your shower and gathers germs! With a mitt, they are also better for targeting areas you want to exfoliate better and I pop them in the wash every few days. I have found using a mitt has really helped to even up the skin tone on my body and gotten rid of small skin issues I was having. Consistent body exfoliation prevents you from developing problems such as dark marks and dry skin. A professional full body scrub can cost as much as £60, so by doing it yourself in the shower you are saving £50 a month or £600 a year!

Save £114 A Year On Eyebrow Maintenance With 50p Products

I have sparse eyebrows, so I fill them in. For me, going to get my eyebrows done doesn’t really make sense, because I don’t have a lot of hair in that area anyway. I just buy a pack of 6 eyebrow razors for £3, and they last six months, so that’s basically 50p a month for eyebrow maintenance. I use eyebrow scissors to trim and tweezers to get any hairs that are out of place. Eyebrow tidy-ups or waxes can cost £10 for a quick treatment, so you’re basically saving £9.50 a month or £114 a year by doing it yourself at home.

Choose Skincare Wisely - Daily Routine For £25 Or One-Off Facial For £30?

Facials are not essential. A good prescription treatment from a dermatologist or skincare professional is what will help you. For example, Skin & Me is a subscription service where they send you your own customised treatment for £25 a month. A facial costs around £30 or more. To compare the two options, a facial can’t fix all of your skin problems, but a daily consistent skin routine can. So instead of spending a lot of money on facials every month, get into a monthly prescription treatment that is cost-effective. I have seen a lot of people on YouTube recommending hugely expensive products, and if you can’t afford to get new ones each month then don’t commit to a routine you won’t be able to stick to. Your skin will suffer because it’s become used to these expensive products, only to have them suddenly switched further down the line when your money runs out. I recommend Facetheory as an effective brand, I love their Vitamin C serum, their face toners and their gel moisturisers.

Treat Feet For Less Than £1 A YEAR With Miracle Peel

To take care of my feet, I get a square basin, fill it with water and oils and soak them for a while. Then once they’re nice and soft, I use the pumice stone to exfoliate the dead skin off my heels and the bottom of my feet. Another way you can totally get rid of the dead skin on your feet is to use an exfoliating foot peel from Amazon or you can actually go to the pound shop and buy similar - they are not expensive. I’ve bought several of them for £1 before. You keep it on for about 90 minutes, but then about seven days later you’ll start to see the skin just shed off your feet. I do it once or twice a year and it keeps my feet soft. I have no problems with dry skin or cracked heels as a result. In the salon, a callus peel can easily cost £20, but why pay out when you can pay less than £1 a year?!
