Boots Closing More Stores: Here's Where & Why

Image

Massive news in the shopping realm! James Flanders at The Sun reported that Boots is about to shut the doors on a few more stores within the coming days, and many shoppers are scratching their heads.

To give you a quick recap: Boots revealed plans to shutter 300 shops over the next year. This major move will see their count drop from a whopping 2,200 down to a still-impressive 1,900. We've recently got wind of the specifics: branches in Glastonbury and Uppingham Road, Leicester are the latest additions to the closure list and they’re set to close by Friday, October 13.

Many folks took to social media to voice their concerns. One customer mentioned the Leicester store being a lifeline for elderly patients who pop out of the nearby doctors to collect their prescriptions. Plus, let’s not forget those friendly staff members who’ve made our shopping experiences all the more pleasant!

But it's not just these two. Boots also shut doors in Windhill Road, Wakefield and Upper Warrengate, Wakefield earlier this month. More closures from earlier in 2023 include shops in places like Salford, Malvern, London, and Woking, among others.

Now, before you go into a frenzy about where you'll collect your prescriptions from next, fret not. Boots assures that in all these cases, there's another Boots store less than three miles away.

These closures aren’t entirely surprising. Boots has seen more than 200 stores go under in an 18-month stretch starting in 2019. The reason? Many were making losses, and funnily enough, around two-thirds of them were practically neighbours – within walking distance of each other.

And just a heads-up: The Sun has also flagged potential future closures in locations like Woking, York, Great Yarmouth, Darlington, Plymouth, and Exeter before the end of 2023.

In response to these changes, Tom Church, Co-Founder of shopping community LatestDeals.co.uk, said, "High street dynamics are ever-changing. While the closures are unfortunate, it's essential for brands to adapt and evolve to serve customers better." Keep those shopping bags at the ready, Deal Hunters, and always stay informed!

Stay savvy!
