The "Ads" on LatestDeals

Other

When I first saw it I thought it was actually ads but it's articles which is kinda confusing by placing it in the middle of it.

Putting it on the side or something to differentiate would be a good idea, here's a suggestion. 🙂

I think it’s nice how it is. I was confused when I first saw them, but then I realised their purpose. And that’s how it’s supposed to be I think: like ad’s. Like when you go on a news site and there’s articles at the bottom which make you want to click them. It’s basically there as a way for you to click on something & see it fully, so yeah I think it looks good the way it is. Just my opinion- everyone may not agree with me 🙈🤔

I like how it looks too. Makes it easier to access the articles too.

I personally could do without them. Not keen on being encouraged on what to read. I should say that I'm someone who is 'awake' so I am very careful on what news/articles I do read and watch as most are false news and disinformation. I certainly would not be getting my info from the latest deals website, no offense, but that is not why I'm here. I do get that it probably brings in money for latest deals hence why this has started.

Hey all 🙂 Thanks for the feedback! We do intend to allow an option to choose to hide the news articles for people that would prefer their deal feeds not to include them. Hopefully that'll keep everyone happy whatever their preference!

The news section of Latest Deals is our attempt to be more of a one-stop-shop for all money/deal related content. Whilst we don't intend to compete with the Financial Times, the news articles are legitimate attempts of covering stories that are interesting for our members/visitors. As ever, we'd encourage feedback if people have ideas as to how to improve the section 👍

Hello, thank you for your feedback. It's great to hear everyone's thoughts!

News is a recent addition to Latest Deals and we're very open to suggestions.

The goal is to research and write in-depth stories relevant to Latest Deals members:

Advice about Consumer Rights, shopping tips and tricks, and interviews with inspiring deal hunters. We also summarise financial news about the economy and also help people with their savings.

In November 2017, elizabethelden joined as our first community journalist. With a Master's Degree in Multimedia Journalism, Lily (as she's called at LD) brought an understanding of professional journalism standards to the table. From the beginning, we've wanted to make sure our research is reliable and useful.

The homepage has enjoyed a few tweaks for News.

Previously, you used to only see 24 deals on the home page. Now, you see 24 deals, then a single row of news, followed by another 12 deals. So we've increased the number of deals you see by 50%. Feedback is very much welcome!

How do we decide what to write about?

Every week day at 9:30AM, Lily and I sit together and discuss what's happening in the news. We look at other sites, what people are saying on Twitter and Facebook, what people (often LD members) have sent us, and we also discuss our own research ideas.

Then, we choose two or three stories to research further and write about. Lily makes telephone calls and emails companies, the Government, local agencies, press offices and more to get the information. We often ask LD members in our Facebook Group for opinions and insider's info - and you'll see many of your own quotes in the articles.

The stories are then written, edited and published. We often make one or two videos for them every day as well. You can comment, add your own opinions and fact-check every article. You'll even get points for it, just as you would across the site!

At the time of writing, no news article has been paid for, sponsored, or endorsed by a company. So I wouldn't call them adverts in that sense. However, we do hope the good quality, well-researched stories increase the community's presence on search engines and social media, attracting more deal hunters. You can read how Latest Deals makes money here.

Thanks again for the feedback, please do ask if you have any questions!
