Is this thread in somewhat a response to this - [link removed]

This isn't so much which one copies the most but its users are at fault, some just straight up copy an entire deal as his/her own. I don't care (anymore) but some obviously do.

I've stopped posting deals and freebies as I kinda lost interest for it, even though the Amazon rewards are pretty nice.

I used to also post at Slickdeals but yeah, can't be bothered to.

I dont think copying shud be an issue as the main purpose is to make sure everyone benefits from the deal. My main issue is the other website's attitude which is quite unwelcoming probably because they have a larger number if users. But it will change eventually.

latestdeals feels more like a community and rewards you for being active,on the other site is a lot more criticism and when I have posted my first deal straight away I have been banned without any reason

HUKD has a set of retailers they get a commission, so those that they do not, aren't accepted. However, they do allow local/offline retailers but it's really just your typical Tesco, ASDA, Sainsbury's, LIDL and so on.

They're also policing on what users comment there.

HUKD is the original pretty much, Latest Deals is just a copycat site that offers Amazon vouchers

jamie15 "the original pretty much" lol what a statement

For example, Slickdeals was established in 1999 while HUKD in 2004 so Slickdeals is "the original pretty much" of *all* deals websites, or is it? No one knows for certain. Websites come and go.

This whole argument of LD vs HUKD or HUKD vs LD is rather childish. Sigh.

I'm on both, HUKD has better content in general but I come here for the Amazon glitches. Let's agree on one thing, Blast My Deals is garbage!

BMD was apparently created in 2016/17 so it's fairly new, and nowhere near as populated as LD/HUKD.

I've never heard of BMD but we shouldn't forget that it should always be:

jamie15 Amazon glitches I guess means when they make a pricing error we can pile on board before they take it down? FBA though means? Also, I used an Amazon code here but not seen them before? Where are these coming from? Does Amazon have a relationship with LatestDeals? Thanks.

colgor FBA is Fulfilled By Amazon. Chinese FBA merchants are banned on HUKD. Amazon codes are from these Chinese FBA merchants who often post deals themselves or pay others to post them (but not always of course, honest posters exist too).

jamie15 Thanks, Why banned on HUKD? I understand codes come from Chinese merchants to get one to click through and Amazon must be in on it as they acccept the codes?

jamie15

colgor As HUKD is very influential on sales, Chinese merchants started to post their own deals and pay others to post their deals for their own products. Self promotion is banned on HUKD so this lead to a ban on all Chinese FBA deals.

I joined HUKD back in 2007. Lost interest in it over the last few years. I do have the glitch alert still but to be honest glitches on HUKD can be pretty rubbish a lot of the time. HUKD can also be very cliquey at times and that is a huge put off. I much prefer LD . The layout is better plus Tom and the mods are pretty awesome.

Well said Sarah. The founders and mentors are so welcoming and nice unlike HUKD who at times act like dictators. In time people will realise that this is a much better website!

What could go against LD is them rewarding people to post deals, this results in so many easily beatable deals being posted. I have seen "deals" where there has been an inflated starting price to make the reduced price look good. When in fact the reduced price is higher than the recommended retail price.

Anyone finding this site when looking for the best price - seeing such SCAM deals are unlikely to want to return or take this site too seriously.

Perhaps it might be considered a reasonable idea that those found to be posting "iffy" deals should have points deducted - and some way of reporting them. All one can do at the moment is comment that the same thing is available at a MUCH lower price elsewhere and incur the wrath of the person who posted the deal.

Yes, some posters here tend to use the RRP of a product and it's been out for like 3, 6 or even more months. All that just to advertise it as "Cheaper than half price!!" which isn't even necessarily true.

Tom You're welcome Tom. The psychophants - who won't say anything that might appear negative don't help you or LD. Many obviously ONLY here for the rewards who don't even bother to check that the deals they post are fair - you'd be better off without.

Hello ๐Ÿ‘‹

Ha it's a strong statement to be "defeating its rivals by a great margin" ๐Ÿ˜

Both sites obviously have a bunch of great deal hunters. We like to think we do things differently here and (this probably isn't a huge surprise) we believe our way is a teensy bit better ;) I'm glad to hear you're loving the glitches!

I've been keeping an eye on the thread over on HUKD as well as the comments here and we're hoovering up all the feedback ready to make more improvements to LD. We've always been big fans of feedback - positive or negative.

Welcome to any newbies popping by from HUKD that haven't heard of us before. If you have any questions feel free to stick up a chat topic or drop us a message.

Separately - I know there's been some upset between members in this topic but please do try and keep any comments on-topic ๐Ÿ‘

The HUKD discussion has been deleted, funny that you use it as an opportunity to get new members instead! Love the FBA glitches and the fact that the founders such as yourself are still around, I was one of the first LD users (didn't have an account but signed up for the competitions and all of that stuff before this site went live). The most disappointing thing about LD is that you haven't launched an Android app apart from the terrible Black Friday one, this is a big negative and this is what stops me from coming on here more often - any plans for one?

jamie15 Hey ๐Ÿ™‚ Yes we're all super keen to get an official app launched and know a bunch of our members are keen for it too! Unfortunately it just hasn't yet topped our tech to-do list but I promise we'll get there - whether that's by me boshing out the to-do list faster or by getting an extra tech person to help (it's currently just me which I confess can be a bit of a bottleneck!)

Would be good to hear why you didn't get on with the Black Friday app to see if we can improve it or avoid the same pitfalls in the main app ๐Ÿ‘

Kelsey Just redownloaded the Black Friday app to check if the same issues are still there. Quite frankly, it's way too simple. The app chose simplicity at the cost of functionality - it's simply a picture and price of an item that you press and automatically the deal link opens. This is not good at all, what would be great is to see this website, with comments/likes etc all baked in, and also the ability to sign in and comment. Alerts and notifications via the app, and pretty much all features of the website including deal posting should be implemented. Since this is a thread about HUKD (noticed the HUKD thread is back live), one thing Pepper have got right is the app. One key thing I want to stress is that I hate apps that are basically a website browser shortcut, it should be designed as a proper app!

jamie15 HUKD have deleted the discussion? Not surprised. If the users are more concerned with a few copycats here and there, they really are clueless to the bigger problem they've got at hand. That is, they can't even converse without thinking "Geez, is this permitted or will it be deleted? What can I possibly do from my thread being removed?".

Well, it's what it is, I guess. They're used to censorship.

Rockman It's not deleted, post is still there. I can understand why the HUKD FBA ban is in place - sellers used to pay deal posters to post and many used to pay themselves. Banning everyone individually for self-promotion was too much work so they did a blanket ban. I don't think LD has reached that amount of self-promotion yet given its smaller size.

I'm a member of both, but mainly on HUKD, and that's because that's where the deals are posted first. LD's biggest issue is that people copy and paste deals from HUKD just for the points!

Kelsey What is LD's stance on people copying and pasting content from other sites? I'd understand if people do it for the points, but it'd be nice if the original poster was credited and linked back to.

jamie15 We've always encouraged people to credit the original name/username of any deal they've found ๐Ÿ™‚

Unfortunately in practice it's quite a difficult thing to enforce - it may have been on HUKD before LD but then both could actually have been found on a Facebook group or some random website originally. So it can be quite hard to trace back to the original source. Unless the original poster offers it up there often isn't much we can actually do about it.

We've seen it happen all which ways - copied from LD to elsewhere and from elsewhere to LD so at least it happens in all directions which I guess somewhat balances out the karma ๐Ÿ˜

jamie15 That's really useful info to have, thanks!

The Black Friday app was intentionally designed to be super simple and a way for people just to find deals. I completely agree that it's no substitute for the Latest Deals website - any official LD app will have all the functionality you've mentioned and more (and it will be an app rather than a mobile friendly website ๐Ÿ‘).

Before we get there though there is some functionality (such as keyword alerts) that we need to add to the main site before we can roll out an app with that functionality too ๐Ÿค“

jamie15 I've been a member of HUKD for several years. I've seen a lot of deals shared on there only after they have been posted elsewhere first. They may not be copying and pasting the deals word for word but they certainly are not crediting the source either. The sad thing is some of them are only doing it for how much attention they can get and pleasure they get from an upvote or seeing the deal reach the hot section.

SteveMate Wow! Excellently summarised there Steve. A lot of people are getting sucked into the pleasure of getting a badge and an up vote. If you point someone out on that website that they have copied, they get aggressive and start posting examples where others have copied from HUKD. These posts are not patents so copying shouldn't be an issue but credit should be given where it's due!

SteveMate I think the same thing for any website, don't like it when people rip off deals from here and post on HUKD unless crediting the original poster. I posted one deal from LD on HUKD in the past but credited the original poster and site.

Kelsey I agree with this, but the points system encourages LD members to specifically repost. Someone like TheDoog always seems to credit poster which is perfectly fine but some users just rip off all HUKD posts, presumably for points.

jamie15 Hey ๐Ÿ™‚ It is indeed. Unfortunately our fancy text editor doesn't get along too well with Android and so is disabled by default. You can enable it and see if it works for you (go to your settings and choose the "Advanced" text editor) where you can @mention people.

We'll be looking to either add functionality to our "Simple" editor (including @mentions) or switch our "Advanced" editor to a different system in the future so that it works for everyone.

Who'd have thought adopting the same editor Facebook uses would cause so many headaches on mobile ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ It's the same thing they use on messenger.com.

Yeah, this whole "war" users on HUKD have made it's pretty childish and in a way it shows they have nothing better to do with their time. There's a whole world out there but they tend to stick to buying games. Well, each for their own, I guess.

I visited Venice a few weeks ago and loved it but only stayed there for 2 days, so I didn't really get to enjoy much but it was a cheap "holiday." You know, Ryanair gets a ton of hate but they're still the ones who everyone go with for cheap plane tickets. ๐Ÿ˜†
