Homeowners with Paved Driveways Could Face Higher Water Bills
In the News
The authorities are constantly thinking of more ways to extract money from billpayers and here is yet another
If you have a paved driveway the water companies are considering higher charges
Apparently they already do this with commercial properties and now want to charge the same with domestic ones
They want the driveways to be permeable to help prevent flooding
So what do they expect people to do who already have impermeable driveways, rip them up and relay them with other materials ?
I think people who already have paved or concrete laid should be exempt , and this charge should only be made on new constructions
How were people to know about this without being made aware in the first place ?

MelissaLee1963 They are saying impermeable coverings cause flooding and hence cause them more work and expense , i think M ?
Any excuse to squeeze more money out of the customers
Its a shame they don't sort out the sewerage they flood into rivers and the sea first
telmel Sounds seriously like scapegoating to me. I have had puddles down my street during heavy rain and they have been like it for many years. I mean puddles that ducks could swim in lol.
MelissaLee1963 They need to get their house in order before squeezing more out of others
I so despise utility companies like this one
I think you’re a little misleading in this post. If you read the article it states quite clearly ‘The NIC has urged the government to look at options to limit the use of paved driveways.‘
This is absurd!!! rules like this annoy me. if there is a chage it should be going forward....
i was actually thinking of a driveway as we have immense parking issues. ill bear this in mind!!!
stuartsmith544 There's no rip off just some suggestions (none- implemented) of how a real problem could be tackled. Something needs to be done. If it does eventually lead to those causing the problem having to foot part of the bill, personally I feel that's fair enough.
