Newborn / Baby Gifts

What do you suggest to get for / wish for newborn baby for Christmas? Any must haves out there?
Jackscot This is a good idea but how about asking if you could open a saving account or purchase children’s bonds.
When I had my babies, I really appreciated gifts such as nappies, baby bath, shampoo etc. These kind of presents were so much more useful than toys or clothes.
I have a newborn to buy for but as he doesn't know what day it is, let alone Christmas, I have bought a wooden trainset and classic children's books for when he is older. These were at parents request as they want as few plastic toys as possible and as his mum is an English teacher and into books big time, wants to start him a little library. I got Wind in the Willows, Dr Seuss, Peter Pan etc.
Everyone buys for the newborn stage, I always loved my friends that bought for when he was bigger. Clothes in the next size up, books, nappies or giving us a voucher so we could spend as needed. My Granny always put money into his bank account so we could either save it or spend it on something he needed.
Books ! I read to my my nephew today. Four months old. He was actually turning the pages ! Loves getting a story read to him
It might be dependant if it is your child or someone elses.
I tend to like gifting useful things or things to do to help them learn or develop.

I wrote a list as a response to this thread, that might be some relevance:
I like to make sure there is a little something that is personalised- baby’s first Christmas with their name on as well as the year - as a bauble or something to hang on the tree. Then yes I agree with others - money for formula, nappies, wipes etc
