Should the PM Go to COP27?

In the News

Its been disclosed that PM for this week will not be going to COP27 and is staying here due to pressing domestic commitments . Is he correct or is going there help move us in a direction of moving away from the dependency of gas and electric and opening up to the alternatives.Do you think he should go to COP27 or is he right to stay home?

No, he should attend on an Online meeting and change his position on onshore wind.

YES of course he should, but then never expected any different from him to be fair. He only looks a lot better than Liz because, well ANYONE would look better than Liz - but at the end of the day they don't care about the planet. At the end of the day we need a global solution - and we need to be part of it.

Definitely should attend, it's so important and ignorant of him not to attend, especially when environmental action in the UK is not where it should be/needs to be

Have you seen how inept he is when dealing with normal people and how disrespectful he is towards poor and middle class people? The "Conservatives" chose someone who has no connection with the general population.

Furthermore, almost every politician in the U.K. who voted in favor of the Covid Passport wanted the population under control (yet the borders are totally opened).

Corbyn surprisingly isn't there so he was against it? Color me surprised.

MelissaLee1963 Not that it makes any difference at the end of the day.

Even with a speech he needs to read a script:

Hopefully he resigns, but I doubt it. I worry when he announces CBDC and people will willingly accept it (like it happened with the Covid Pass via the NHS App).

PhilipMarc He ended with saying he will deliver to the people, the only thing i would trust him to deliver would be the post, and then only circulars, it doesn't matter if they go to the wrong addresses

I'm very glad he's halted fracking again but I also think he should be at COP27. The environment is of huge importance and it needs to be dealt with on a global scale.

For me the reason he should be there is quite a simple 1 , its easy to talk the talk and set dates far in the future and then backtrack on that date when it gets closer and closer .

By being there he's sending a message that he does want to contribute to the solution of helping our planet .

I've always said that the solution to the planets problems isn't solveable on a local level but is a local level, national level and worldwide level .All 3 should work together .

I'll use Saudi Arabia as an example ,they need the world to keep using oil as if the people dont then there revenue will plummet . Opec will be an annoying little cousin and when oil prices drop they withold the oil to push the price back up and then they are happy and nothing changes for the us the consumer.

Think about the treasury and the type of money they raise in taxes from us filling up at the fuel station . If we all swapped today to electric cars and we didn't need to go to the fuel station how much tax overnight would they lose .It comes back to the talk the talk . Ford this week announced they are stopping building the Ford Fiesta to produce there electric cars . I don't know about other members where they live but I very much doubt there is an abundance of car chargers around your area for each and every car that would require to be charged at the same time .

For where I live we have an Asda ,Morrisons ,Sainsburys ,Aldi ,Lidl and farmfoods for supermarkets .Only Morrisons has charging points and there is only 2 there .

We have an energy crisis based on our dependency of gas and electric and no matter how u look at it since privitisation nothing has been done to build our infrastructure except mentioning it and doing nothing .

Hey guys I'm very sorry this Chat post, whilst interesting and topical, has had it's comments closed as we no longer accept political discussions in Chat. You can see it in our Chat guidelines here. For ease of reference, I've copied and pasted the relevant bit here:

"Political and religious conversation - unfortunately this is not allowed. It was a tough decision (see here for our rationale). Please avoid racism, personal questions of religious orientation, or unnecessary and impolite comments."

Sorry to be a boo-boo.
