From Saturday 2nd to Sunday 10th June, painters, sculptors, ceramicists and jewellery makers will throw open their doors for the inaugural Canvas & Grit Open Studios Nidderdale. This promises to be an open studio event like no other. Not only is it a testament to the resilience and (to borrow their term) grit of this extraordinary band of artists – regular Living North readers will remember our feature last spring that marked the 25th birthday of the King Street Workshops in Pateley Bridge – but it is also a celebration of the life and landscape of Nidderdale itself.
We’re offering one lucky reader the chance to win a special hamper of prizes from the Nidderdale artists. This exclusive prize includes a Green Man carving from Joseph Hayton (worth £300), a Deep Pool – Sampson’s Wood screenprint from Sarah Garforth (£95), an Orange Tip Butterfly raku pot from Fiona Mazza (£50), a Silver Mini Lichen necklace from Alice Clarke (£45), a Middlesmoor II print from Karen Baron (£40) and titanium studs from Moxon and Simm (£38).
