With lockdown easing and UK travel opening up, we’re pretty sure that many with a degree of cabin fever will escape to Devon and Cornwall which, during the summer months, are counties at their very best.
Childhood memories for many come flooding back at the thought of summers spent making sandcastles on the beach and cream teas with generous dollops of Rodda’s Cornish Clotted Cream and homemade strawberry jam.
New to the PIG tribe is THE PIG-at Harlyn Bay, whose eagerly anticipated opening had to be delayed due to Covid-19. Now, it seems, the excitement for the seventh PIG in the litter is even more fervent and for good reason.
THE PIG-at Harlyn Bay has far-reaching views out to sea from many of the bedrooms in the main house. Its unique elements are enough to excite even the most longstanding Pigophiles with spacious shepherd’s huts in the garden and a lobster shack for salty surfers to come and enjoy a bowl of mussels, chips and a nice cold pint of Cornish cider.
At THE PIG-at Combe during lockdown the gardening team has been busy nurturing the bountiful produce flourishing in the kitchen garden ensuring that there’s plenty to feed hungry guests as they reappear and enjoy the home grown dishes crafted by Dan and his team of chefs.
During the summer months seasonal dishes such as garden peas, broad beans and fresh goat’s curd are likely to feature on the menu plus broccoli, poached eggs and crosnes. Puddings such as Lex’s garden mint mousse or lemon and lime basil posset might also feature and all can be washed down with a cold glass of PIG Hut Rosé.
What these two PIGs have in common are breathtaking views of the countryside from almost every aspect of each respective hotel. From their generous gardens or charming ground floor reception rooms the eye is taken to the lush greenness that we as Brits are so lucky to have throughout our green and pleasant land.
