I don't think I would of been amused had my hubby gotten me this unless it was to put my ring in it. I do love my ring & must admit I was very lucky to get the diamond ring I had dreamed of since was little it was exactly like I remembered my great grans.

I guess there will be a lot of people who are a lot worse off than ourselves & this may be all they can afford & it would mean a lot to them. I must admit it's a really nice looking ring.

fifehoney the point is to have a token with which to propose, with the promise of choosing the real ring later. Nobody is suggesting people would use this as a real engagement ring. My brother did this with an enormous fake diamond ring meant as a dress-up toy. The condescension in going from 'I don't think I would of been amused had my hubby gotten me this' to 'I guess there will be a lot of people who are a lot worse off than ourselves & this may be all they can afford & it would mean a lot to them' is nauseating. I owned 9 carats of diamonds, but they were bought by a man who was a violent alcoholic, so I sold them once I escaped from him. The truth is that a diamond doesn't mean you're loved; I'd rather have had bare fingers and someone who never hurt me.

gothvixen aww I'm ever so sorry to hear that I can totally relate to that my partner a few before my hubby battered me a lot & it wasn't till he almost killed me I left. A couple of years ago the police came to me & asked me to testify as he done it again but I had to be moved in the middle of the middle of them gathering evidence & putting the case together as he found me which was scary as I hadn't seen him since I left him just over 10 years ago. He was found guilty on all charges for all 4 of us who gave evidence and in September just pass was given life.

And yes I see what you mean about the token of which to propose that makes sense I never thought of it like that.

Well I wish all the best, happiness & love for 2024 x

Nothing wrong with that. If your relationship is based on the size of stone then good luck.

mosesy it wasn't that i wanted a big diamond I had just always wanted one like my great grans & that was passed to her youngest daughter. To be fair I wouldn't of minded if it wasn't diamonds as long as it looked like my great grans I'd of been over the moon but as I said I'm very lucky that my hubby got me diamonds as I'd only ever showed him pictures of what it looked like & never said it had to be diamonds & it will be 7years we have been happily married.

I bet this ring is given to a person in Wetherspoons in a pitcher of Purple Rain ☔ They will see the funny side and get a jug of dizzy juice for free...win, win!

I’m not sure I’d have the bottle to do it personally. I get people say it’s the thought etc but proposing with a cheap ring is just a big no no imo

This is very pretty and the ring is only a symbol anyway, it's the relationship that matters

I saw this in Poundland and to be honest the work on these rings is kind of rough… but it’s just £1. Still wow.

Great little gift during this cost of living crisis. I for one feel it is the sentiment rather than price that counts. A more expensive version can always be bought later.
