This help is really needed. I was very upset yesterday because my dad goes to pub most evenings for one drink (just a bit of time to himself). Anyway there was an elderly man who was going to the pub every day but wasn’t drinking much . My dad got chatting with him and he hadn’t got any electricity and hadn’t had any for over a month .

My dad went to his house and the man showed my dad the letters from his energy supplier about the payments everyone getting. However they hadn’t credited his smart metre . My dad rang the electric and they told him go to the metre , press A , then wait for beep and press B etc .

He got the electricity on . Next day my dad got a call from landlady of pub asking if my dad had been to this mans house and sorted the electricity and HOW MUCH DID THE MAN OWE MY DAD? My dad told her that he hadn’t had to pay himself for it but she insisted saying “ don’t lie , he wants to give you the money back “. My dad explained about the vouchers for electricity hadn’t gone on his meter but it was sorted now .

How hadn’t anyone noticed that this man hadn’t any electricity for so long ? It’s very sad

Nickyhaslam77 OMG how awful Nicky, it makes you want to cry for him, thank goodness for your wonderful Dad taking the time to sort him out!!! Sending best wishes to your Dad, the sad thing is, there are going to be many others like this elderly and not enough good samaritans like your Dad!! 😔 x

JoTarpley I can’t understand how nobody noticed that he hadn’t had electricity on for all that long time. What a terrible way to spend Christmas . I’m not being over dramatic but in all honesty he’s lucky he survived the cold weather . It’s truly heartbreaking. The pub my dad goes to are a close bunch of regulars. Hence the landlady telephoning my dad to check if he was out of pocket .

Unfortunately many ppl haven’t used the electric vouchers as they scared its a scam etc . I am so upset that there must be other people out there in similar situations

Nickyhaslam77 Yes I agree Nicky, it's been soooo cold, it's very sad when you think about it all, but they're a nice bunch at your Dads pub aren't they! 😍 x

AJ13 I’m just so surprised no one else had already done it. It’s awful and my dad said it was so easy to do once he rang the electric company. In fact he was a bit annoyed with himself for being a little short with them on phone but he was angry the poor man had had to suffer like that

JoTarpley they are truly lovely . I was in my dads car one evening when the landlady rang him (just after the lockdown had ended ) to see if he was popping in that evening because she was locking up shortly . I was surprised she had rang him but have come to realise that that pub has a wonderful bunch of ppl . Very surprising these days

JoTarpley I just replied to your comment but it’s gone down as reply to a different comment. They are truly a lovely bunch at the pub and o think the landlady should realise how much of a difference she makes with her caring attitude. You don’t get that these days but she goes above and beyond. Truly an angel in disguise, lovely lady

Nickyhaslam77 If you haven't got anyone around to help, I can imagine it gets very confusing and overwhelming as all the companies have done it differently. It's a shame, I think people avoid asking for help out of pride or feeling guilty for bothering people but there are lots of kind people like your dad who are willing to help when they can.

AJ13 it’s true about it being confusing. Also there have been warnings about not clicking on emails or texts as there are scammers trying to cash in on the crisis to line their own greedy pockets . Therefore some ppl aren’t getting what they entitled to as they think that all emails about the vouchers are fraudulent. It’s such a shame,

Nickyhaslam77 Yes I know, sadly there are many people in this world who just want to line their own pockets and have no conscience 😢 x

JoTarpley I really don’t know how they can sleep at night knowing that they have put ppl in desperate situations just for them to be greedy . I remember once I found £30 on floor outside a corner shop and I was looking around to see if I could see who had dropped it (don’t know how I was going to find the person , I suppose if I noticed someone looking on the floor I would ask if they had lost anything). I felt awful thinking of the person who had lost it. My friends actually kind of laughed at me saying that it was my lucky day and to stop being silly because there’s no way I could return the money to it’s rightful owner , if I started asking ppl if they knew where it had come from I’d have a list of “the rightful owners “ a mile long . It’s true but most ppl do think of others , just the minority of nasty ppl who just don’t give a FIG!!!! LOL

Nickyhaslam77 Yes I'm afraid there is a vast majority out for what they can get, 'me, me, me, the world owes me' which is so sad, how many people actually have a moral sense of right and wrong nowadays, it seems like very few!

OMG now I'm sad for the person who lost that £30!! 😢 x

JoTarpley at least you can see how I felt, not many people could . They were like “it’s your lucky day!” But at what cost to someone else . I couldn’t go out splashing out with the money, so how these scammers use other ppls hard earned money for their own means is awful
