These should be given to every child anyway . It’s why so many children are behind as everyone learns differently. Thanks for sharing

Nickyhaslam77 I totally agree with you.. My child has just started high school and I've been struggling and battling with the "schools/system" since he was in Year 1 at primary school... Not only that a few people I know who had the same experiences went private and there children got diagnosed, but that cost was a minimum of £500 xx

gemlou204 my brother has autism and therefore the school gets paid for him to have access to a mentor kind of thing . When he started secondary school he had a few problems. So I asked him what his mentor was like and he replied “I don’t know” !!! So I kept probing and eventually asked “is it a man or woman?” He replied he didn’t know ? I was getting confused by then so asked if he’d even met this mentor the school received funding for , and he said “NO”! Apparently if he was struggling and needed help he was to ask to speak to this mentor !!!!! Now no child likes to admit they are struggling, in fact I don’t think anyone does . Instead of asking for this mentor he had been misbehaving. I spoke to the teachers and told them some of the things that had helped my brother in junior school . The teachers were saying these were great ideas and they could easily be implemented in the secondary school.

Why did it take me having to point it out to them and allow my brother to get bad reputation of misbehaving? Surely they should have been records of how his behaviour was monitored previously , that had worked well for years . Also shouldn’t the mentor have introduced him/her self and then checked in with my brother at least once a week.

Speak to your local M.P and tell them the problems you are experiencing and that you need help so that your child can reach their full potential. Some M.P’s are really helpful

Nickyhaslam77 I'm so sorry to hear about your Brothers struggles, that is so wrong and makes me feel so sad .

Thank you so much for your advice and help, I will definitely be looking into that. It breaks my heart seeing how much my Son has struggled and continues to do so when he shouldn't. Thank you Gemma

gemlou204 it’s the same situation throughout the country I’m afraid unless you’re lucky and have found a school that have excellent staff and facilities to help when needed. There are so many intelligent children struggling at schools and not reaching their full potential because they are not receiving the assistance they need and deserve.

Looking back at how many children struggled with dyslexia but were written off as not being intelligent or capable. The truth is they were more than capable and very intelligent if only it had been realised they had dyslexia.

Nickyhaslam77 Totally agree.. The sad thing is, that I very much doubt that thing's will ever change x

gemlou204 true it’s so annoying that so many people can’t reach their full potential because they don’t get the help they deserve . Richard Branson has dyslexia and dropped out of school at 15 because of it . Luckily for him he was a very determined man and has every success in life. Unfortunately everyone is not as lucky .
