Join Bafta award-winning Sally Wainwright (Happy Valley, Last Tango in Halifax, To Walk Invisible) for an exclusive Yorkshire preview of episode one of Gentleman Jack, her brand new drama for BBC One.
Creator, writer and lead director Sally will be joined by Bafta award-winning Suranne Jones (Doctor Foster, Save Me, Scott & Bailey) who leads the cast as the remarkable Regency landowner Anne Lister and Sophie Rundle (Bodyguard, Peaky Blinders) who plays Ann Walker, the wealthy heiress who Anne Lister sets her sights on marrying.
Filmed on location at Shibden Hall, Halifax and in and around West Yorkshire; Gentleman Jack is a remarkable love story set in 1832 in the complex, changing world of Halifax - the cradle of the industrial revolution.
Every part of Anne Lister’s story is based in historical fact, recorded in the five million words of Anne’s diaries that contained the most intimate details of her life. Parts of her diaries were once hidden in a secret code that has now been cracked.
The drama explores Anne Lister’s relationships at home with her family, her servants, her tenants and her industrial rivals, who will use any dirty tricks they can to bring her down.
Gentleman Jack has all the warmth, wit, and complexity that audiences have come to associate with Sally Wainwright’s writing, and at its heart is Anne's relationship with her would-be wife, Ann Walker.
Following the screening hear direct from Sally Wainwright, Suranne Jones and Sophie Rundle, who will be talking with Anna Foster, BBC Radio 5 live Drive presenter about the production process and historical research behind the show.
Tickets will be allocated by random draw with 60% of the tickets going to Halifax postcodes*, 30% to West Yorkshire postcodes** and the remaining 10% going to the rest of the UK.
