I learned Makaton when I was doing a training scheme as a teenage. I was working in a hospital that was changed into housing for mentally and physically handicapped. I was in swimming department which I loved . Anyway back to Makaton it’s very easy to learn and I still remember it to this day . Thank you is put hand to your mouth , swipe down and open palmed point flat hand towards the person you thanking . Please is almost the same open hand to chin then pull away outwards,
Nickyhaslam77 so I’m holding my hand to just under my mouth and swiping down pointing hand out to say thank you for sharing this lol
Nickyhaslam77 What a brilliant thing to learn Nicky, things like this should be compulsory! x
JoTarpley I agree it should be compulsory. If teachers from primary school knew it and just signed as they talked to their young students then they’d pick it up in no time. Children absorb things like sponges at early age .
I’m not sure if I’d explained it very well so after much searching I found this. Lol . My above post may make more sense now . Lol
JoTarpley thank you for your reply . I knew you’d understand how I worded it but I can be confusing to some ppl lol .
I to learnt this,When I was manager of a home for people with learning disabilities, I asked for someone to come to the home, so all the staff could attend, apart from those that where on shift. Its easy to learn
just like Nickyhaslam77 remarked its like anything, you do need to keep using it, so you don't have to think about it, and comes naturally.
