The NHS Health Check is a health check-up for adults in England aged 40 to 74. It's designed to spot early signs of stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, type 2 diabetes or dementia. As we get older, we have a higher risk of developing one of these conditions. An NHS Health Check helps find ways to lower this risk.
Am I eligible for an NHS Health Check?
The check is for people who are aged 40 to 74 who do not have any of the following pre-existing conditions:
heart disease
chronic kidney disease
diabetes
high blood pressure (hypertension)
atrial fibrillation
transient ischaemic attack
inherited high cholesterol (familial hypercholesterolemia)
heart failure
peripheral arterial disease
stroke
currently being prescribed statins to lower cholesterol
previous checks have found that you have a 20% or higher risk of getting cardiovascular disease over the next 10 years
I'm 55 and I have never had a letter inviting me for this, my gp surgery keeps door locked and if they answer the phone they tell you to go to chemist! You can't book an appointment without online triage . I was reading earlier that gp surgery wouldn't be able to tell you to ring back tomorrow
I've had a couple of these over the years as I am in my late 40s now but I am living in Scotland
These are very important Heath checks for us all. Definitely will be taking up on any that are offered to me
Thanks for sharing. Never had any mention of this from my docs. Surely preventative medicine is better (and cheaper).
Good service it could be useful for anyone doesn’t have knowledge about health thank you for sharing this
Good to know about.
Don’t rely on NHS for invite though, the admin side can’t seem to organise a proverbial in a brewery!
