- One flight is just £15 - the cheapest deal Tom has EVER seen
- Travellers will save £100s compared with flying to traditional tourist traps
Last-minute holidays have felt like a thing of the past in recent years, and with the price of living on the rise it’s easy to avoid looking at flights altogether. However, there are still bargains to be had, especially if you’re looking for hidden gems that tourists don’t typically visit.
Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, said: ‘I love looking for flights that are as cheap as possible and taking a trip to somewhere I’d never have even known existed. I took a look at Google Flights data recently and was pleasantly surprised to find that there are currently flights going for as cheap as £16 at the moment!
‘Prices are quickly changing - I saw a few £16 flights going up even as I was researching options, so if you want to go abroad in the coming weeks with one of these incredible bargains, I recommend snapping them up quickly! Here’s what I found.’
London to Maastricht - £16 with Ryanair, 10-17 October
You may not have heard of Maastricht, but it’s a great time of year to go if you want a truly bargain-friendly holiday. For just £16, you can fly there with Ryanair on a round trip, departing from Stansted Airport. What’s more, the flight leaves just after midday, giving you plenty of time to get to Departures. You’ll also only be on the plane for just over an hour.
It’s not always possible to get this flight - departures are few and far between, according to the price grid on Google Flights. In October, you’ll only be able to fly out on a handful of dates, and the £16 deal is only available for a short while before prices shoot up to double or even triple.
Once you’ve seen Maastricht, you’ll probably want to grab this deal again in the future and take another trip! This little-known city is one of the oldest in Holland, making it a picturesque location for photography fans and history buffs. There’s excellent shopping to be had, including a number of local markets. Attractions include art museums, Saint Peter’s Fortress and unique vineyards which surround the city.
London to Košice - £16 with Ryanair, 4-11 October
Another great flight deal I found for just £16 is to Košice, a city in eastern Slovakia near the Hungarian border. You can jet off for this insanely cheap price in a matter of weeks, as there’s a cluster of £16 flights departing Stansted on the 3rd, 4th and 5th October. Picking your dates wisely is key here, as leaving on either side of these dates can easily cost you twice the price.
You can even go for just £15 if you pick a flight leaving on 4th October and come back on the 11th, which has to be the lowest flight price I’ve ever seen! Often, the flights are in the early morning or the evening - the £15 one leaves at 6:25am for example - but if you’re not a morning person you can grab a £16 flight leaving at around 7pm.
What’s more, Košice is definitely worth a visit. Your friends may not have heard of this destination, but no doubt they’ll want to go by the time you return. This city features history dating back to the medieval period, along with a number of Gothic churches with stunning architecture. There’s also a museum of wax figurines to check out, and if you hire a car you can check out limestone caverns in Slovak Karst National Park, wine country in Tokaj and more.
London to Cluj-Napoca - £16 with Ryanair, 2-11 October
If you’ve never been to Romania, now is a great time to take a trip over to the land famed for its vampire folklore. Currently, Google Flights reports that flights to Cluj-Napoca are £29 cheaper than usual for dates in October, with Stansted departures going for just £16. Ryanair is offering a handful of cheap deals throughout the month, but pick your dates carefully as prices can easily go up to almost £50.
Leaving on the 2nd October and returning on the 11th gives you a solid 9 days to explore this little-known country, and it only takes a few hours to get there. The flights do all leave early - between 6am and 7am, to be precise - but setting your alarm clock seems a small price to pay for a deal like this!
Once you land, you can soak up the history of this ancient city, which has been inhabited since 200BC, before taking a two hour drive to Sighisoara. This popular destination features cobbled streets, multi coloured buildings and stunning views - plus it’s said to be the birthplace of Dracula. If you want to travel further, you can head down to the capital, Bucharest, for some city nightlife.
