McDonald's Axes Christmas Freebie & Shoppers Are Not Happy
Attention, savvy shoppers and budget-conscious families! McDonald's has made a significant change this festive season. The fast-food giant, known for its budget-friendly meals, is now charging 79p for its "Reindeer Treats," a departure from their previous free giveaway during Christmas. This price change, though a reduction from the usual 99p, marks an end to a beloved freebie.
In previous years, notably 2021 and 2022, families could delight in the complimentary bag of carrots for Santa's reindeer. However, this year, those looking to maintain this festive tradition will need to factor in this new cost. The carrots will be available at McDonald's branches, subject to availability, with the exact dates yet to be confirmed.
However, there's a silver lining for those seeking festive cheer without the extra expense. Tesco and Morrisons have stepped in with their own initiatives. Tesco offers free carrots at select stores from December 20th to Christmas Eve, continuing a tradition started in 2019. Morrisons, not to be outdone, is giving away 175,000 "wonky carrots" from December 22nd to 24th, promoting their range of misshapen but perfectly tasty vegetables, which they have offered since 2015.
Sam Walker at The Sun first reported this festive shift in policy. The significance of this change reflects a broader trend of companies finding a balance between promotional offers and profitability, especially during the holiday season.
As Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, sums up, "While it's disappointing to see a free festive treat turn into a paid one, there are still many ways to save and enjoy the holiday season, be it through McDonald's deals or free offerings from other supermarkets."
