Walkers Announces Wacky Flavour Is Discontinued But There's A Silver Lining

Image
  • Walkers fans were dismayed at the discontinuation of their favored Marmite crisps.
  • A Facebook user discovered that the Marmite crisps are still available at Costcutter and Morrisons.
  • The crisps and new tortilla chips are part of a collaboration with Tayto Group.

In a twist that could only be described as snack aisle drama, Walkers' announcement of discontinuing their "god tier" Marmite crisps had fans stocking up like it was the end of the world. But, lo and behold, a beacon of hope shone through from a Facebook Group, revealing that these much-loved crisps haven't vanished into the snack abyss after all. They're making a comeback, and they've brought friends - in the form of "yummy" tortilla chips, no less, all thanks to a nifty collaboration with Tayto Group.

Olivia Allhusen at The Sun reported on this crispy saga, outlining how the Marmite crisps, after a 20-year stint on our shelves, were axed at the end of 2023, leaving a salty void in our hearts. The internet was abuzz with despair, with comments ranging from vows of loyalty abandonment to stockpiling declarations. Yet, in an unexpected plot twist, it's been revealed that not only are the crisps back, but they're also joined by an equally moorish lineup of tortilla chips, now gracing the shelves of Costcutter, Morrisons, and Sainsbury's. Fans have been quick to share their jubilation online, with comments pouring in expressing an eagerness to reunite with their beloved snack.

The rollercoaster of emotions didn't stop there, though. Last year, Walkers also decided to say goodbye to other fan favorites like the Worcester sauce flavor, Max Fiercely Flamin' Hot crisps, Beef and Onion flavor, and Sensations Regal Lamb and Mint crisps. It was a series of heartbreaking farewells for crisp enthusiasts. However, the return of Marmite crisps and the introduction of new tortilla chips serve as a silver lining for those mourning the loss of their snack companions.

This narrative of discontinued delights and triumphant returns is not unique to Walkers. The craving for nostalgia has seen a resurgence of retro snacks and sweets, with various retailers and online platforms catering to the demand for blasts from the past. From biscuits that take you back to grandma's kitchen to sweets missing from the candy tin, the quest for yesteryear's flavors is more fervent than ever.

Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, commented, "The return of Walkers' Marmite crisps, along with the launch of new products, is a testament to the power of consumer voices. It's a delight to see beloved flavors making a comeback, proving that sometimes, the classics just can't be beaten."

I love Marmite crisps. Will be interesting to try the tortillas too. Meanwhile it's Flavour not Flavor unless you are American.

Did a side by side taste test with family. Sadly the Tayto ones are a tad greasy. Heavier, and not as tangy as walkers. A very inferior crisp.

I love Marmite Crisps and use to love OXO Crisps by Chipmunk which Golden Wonder bought as a kid but sad times they discontinued them years ago. Wish they would bring them back too.
