Competition: write a story featuring a diary
Closing date: 28 May 2024, 23:55
Each month we'll provide a prompt to get you started, but where the story goes from there is entirely up to you. This month we're also running a special Scotland's Stories 50 Word Non-Fiction opportunity – a chance for you to share your story on the theme of hope in 50 words.
The 50 Word Fiction competition includes four categories: adult writers, all-age Gaelic writers, young writers aged 5–11 and young writers aged 12–18. The entries will be judged by a panel and the four winning stories will be published on our website roughly two weeks after the closing date. A prize will be awarded to a writer in each category and we're very happy to offer the below:
Adult writers: A 'go away I'm writing' mug from The Literary Gift Company(this link will open in a new window)
All-age Gaelic writers: A fab book from The Gaelic Books Council(this link will open in a new window)
Young writers 5–11: A cool badge and pencil socks from The Literary Gift Company
Young writers 12–18: An excellent notebook and pen from The Literary Gift Company
Winners located outside the UK in the Adult or Young writers categories will receive an alternative prize from The Literary Gift Company. For more information, check out our terms and conditions.
MelissaLee1 I wondered whether it was harder to write a 50 word story than it is to write a whole book? Good luck
tumblespots Not for the trained and the disciplined.Er sadly that's not me I'd have to redact 453,726 words lol.
MelissaLee1 That's a lot to redact! I wonder how interesting a story can be with only 50 words?!
