Avignon is famous for its legendary bridge, ancient city walls and 15th-century Pope’s Palace. Having recently reopened after undergoing a complete renovation, the traditional shutters have been given a new lick of blue paint and its stonework beautifully restored. Inside you’ll find stone staircases, fireplaces and tiled floors, styled with carefully selected period furniture.

The building dates back to the 16th century and has a varied history that includes being home to a cardinal, while the grounds were once a silkworm farm and winery. Today the gardens are filled with trees, flowers and a delightful outdoor swimming pool. It’s been run by the Najeti group for over 15 years, who are known for hand-picking characterful hotels; they certainly know how to welcome guests too, from thoughtful goodies in your room to the deceptively simple gourmet menu in Le Mûrier restaurant. Such attention to detail led to the hotel being awarded a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.

To get to the hotel from Avignon TGV station, you have two options: the hotel can book you a taxi (approximately €20 each way, payable locally); you can take the tram from the TGV station to Avignon Centre Station and then a bus to Villeneuve Centre (bus tickets cost €1.40 each and the bus stop is a 20-minute walk from the hotel).
