Its ok, Alexa App had problems adding it took 3 goes before it showed, works all my lights and plugs. She's a bit deaf poor old lass. Sound quality is ok in low volume setting but distorts if you turn it up, Vol 3 or 4 is ok. Ive got the new holder fitted it ok under a wall cabinet in kitchen. Cable tidy could be better when you wind it round holder. UPDATE SHE DEFIANTLY WANTS AN HEARING AID, DEAF AS A POST. UPDATE sound quality is poor sounds like old fashioned speakers that distort and vibrate, maybe I've bought a dud one, 2 star because of sound and it being deaf.'

- Don't even bother trying to get this to work with classical music. Kept saying it didn't recognise my request to play Handel's Utrecht Te Deum. So I went to the Amazon music store and found the album. I played the album and asked the in-app Alexa what music was being played, hoping to get an idea of pronunciation or some other factor that was stopping the dot from fulfilling my request.
- It helpfully told me that no music was being played, despite it being loud and clear. I tried several times but it kept insisting my phone was not playing music when it evidently was.
- So, whilst the music was being played through my phone speaker, I asked the Dot to identify the music it could hear. It gave me completely the wrong answer, even the wrong compose. The music it identified is not even similar to that being played. It did this numerous times, not once getting it correct.
- I did the same with my Google Nest (yes, I have both) to identify it and Google got it straight away. I played different tracks. Google got them all.
- 20 minutes of interrogating Alexa later, I've come to realise it's just a useless piece of crap that can do little other than order you stuff from Amazon.
- On the plus side, sound quality is good, but that means bugger all of it's playing something you don't want to hear in the first place. It can do things like set reminders, eventually interacts with my TV if I use specific terminology (Google Nest gets the gist of what I'm saying), but it's so unintuitive... I've honestly been swearing at the bloody thing.
- Very disappointing. Google has slapped you down on this one. I want my money back!
Even at this price, if you already have the 3rd generation Echo Dot then there is no point in upgrading to these. Very little difference apart from the shape.
