Mbweha Camp, Lake Nakuru National Park (two nights)
On the park's southern border, the unassuming Mbweha Camp crouches on vast acacia-dotted plains on the private 6400-acre Congreve Conservancy. Ten rustic lava stone cottages with thatched rooves reveal airy interiors, with plush beds draped with mosquito netting, polished floors, elegant furniture and artwork on the stone walls. Between game drives, pad across to the pool for refreshing dips. Come evening, cosy up to the roaring fire in the spacious open-sided thatched bar, lounge and dining area. You can expect Wi-Fi and continental-style cooking here, and dining outside under the trees next to the lake by day or beneath the magical African sky at night is also possible. All meals and select beers, wines and spirits are included.
Tipilikwani Mara Camp, Masai Mara National Reserve (three nights)
On the border of Tanzania and its gigantic Serengeti National Park, this friendly camp is a sister of your first Kenyan sleep. Luxe riverside tents come furnished in the earthy warm colours favoured by the Maasai people, with both wooden floors and handcrafted wooden furniture. You can learn more about these intriguing and nomadic warriors and animal herders on their own stomping ground, through seeing local cultural performances or by attending lectures from a resident naturalist (both payable). Dine on continental-style cooking in the airy open-sided thatched communal area that also hosts a bar and comfortable lounge, or eat in the tranquillity of your tent's verandah or beneath the stars. All meals and select beers, wines and spirits are included.
