Aldi's £1.15 Choc Spread: Better & Cheaper Than Nutella?
Got kids who love their Nutella on toast? Well, Aldi might have just the thing for you! And it's easier on the wallet.
Josie O'Brien at The Sun reported that a savvy dad, Steven Docherty, discovered Aldi's most affordable Nutella alternative: the Everyday Essentials Chocolate Hazelnut Spread, priced at a mere £1.15. He arranged a blind taste test pitting this against Aldi's £1.49 Nutoka. The results? His kids gave the cheaper version the thumbs up!
Remember when Nutella could set you back as much as £4 for a 350g jar? Many folks took to social media platforms, particularly the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group, echoing Steven's sentiment. A plethora of comments flowed in favour of the Nutoka over Nutella, with many intrigued to sample the even more affordable Everyday Essentials version. One user shared, "My kids also prefer the Essentials one." Another highlighted, "I got the Nutoka one when Nutella hit over £4 a jar."
Steven gave another reason to cheer for Aldi's newest offering: it’s RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) certified. For those unacquainted, it means the palm oil within is sustainably sourced, which is a big win for our planet.
Of course, every product has its staunch defenders. Die-hard Nutella fans stood their ground, insisting that nothing comes close to their beloved brand. As one commented, "Nutella is the one brand that no one can compare to."
In summarising this sweet news, Tom Church, Co-Founder of shopping community LatestDeals.co.uk, noted, "It's always refreshing to see consumers have choices that are both pocket-friendly and palate-pleasing. It'll be interesting to see if this shakes up the spread game."
