Surprise Supermarket's Mince Pies Beat Aldi & M&S In Blind Taste Test

Hey, savvy shoppers, let's dive straight into the latest scoop that's set to impact your festive shopping list. This year's blind taste test for the best mince pies has thrown a delicious curveball our way.

In what's a game-changer for budget-conscious connoisseurs, Co-op's Irresistible Luxury Mince Pies have bagged the coveted Best Buy recommendation. Costing just 46p per pie, these treats won't just delight your taste buds but also your wallet. They earned a stellar 73% rating, impressing judges with their buttery pastry and sweet, glossy filling.

Close on their heels, Tesco's Finest Mince Pies also snagged a Best Buy nod, with a score of 72%. These pies, slightly pricier at 50p each, were lauded for their festive citrus touch and balanced flavours.

Now, let's talk about the panel of experts who had this enviable task. The line-up included Great British Bake Off stars and award-winning bakers, ensuring a high standard in the judging process. They focused on appearance, pastry quality, and the balance of fruit and spices in the filling.

In this taste test, some other supermarket offerings were also noteworthy. Aldi's Specially Selected Mince Pies, the cheapest at 37p each, are a steal if you're counting pennies. However, some options like Asda's and Sainsbury's didn't quite hit the mark, ranking lower in the taste test.

Lyndsey Young at The Sun reported this intriguing mince pie showdown, highlighting how Co-op and Tesco have set a new benchmark in the festive treat category.

Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, sums it up neatly: "This year's mince pie taste test reveals that quality doesn't always come with a high price tag. Co-op's win reminds us that value and taste can go hand-in-hand, offering a delightful surprise for shoppers this festive season."

I picked up a couple of boxes of the Tesco finest mince pies today. They were £1.50 a box clubcard price so 25p a mince pie. One box have already been eaten and they were very nice indeed. Of course the best time to buy mince pies is just after christmas when they are on clearance at a very low price.
