Getting in a round of golf can be a great way to relax, but if you want to try out a course further afield the prices can be astronomical. However, don’t let this put you off - there are ways to create your own perfect holiday package by hunting down the best deals.

Tom Church, Co-Founder of money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk, said: ‘When you look at golfing holiday packages online, prices can be as high as £195. This can be off-putting for those without hundreds of pounds to spend, but the good news is that there are plenty of well-priced courses available across the UK - with bargain hotels and restaurants nearby to go with them.

‘With rounds under a tenner, meals that won’t break the bank and hotels that don’t cost the earth, you can easily save over £100 by creating your own holiday. Here are some of my favourite combinations.’

Ledene Golf, Wolverhampton - £10 For 2 Hours & 18 Holes

Based in Wolverhampton, Ledene Golf provides an 18 hole par 3 golf course for a range of abilities. Beginners can try their hand in this newbie-friendly environment, while veterans can perfect their short game by checking out this course, which takes an average of 2 hours to complete.

They don’t offer a membership fee, instead providing pay and play options. You can get a day ticket for £15, or a single round is £10. Juniors under 16 can claim a round for just £7, and seniors can also play for £7 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If you want to splurge, you can go for 12 months of unlimited golf for £249, and the junior version is £99 a year. You can also check out the driving range, where 50 balls are £3, 75 are £4 and 100 are £5.

If you go in the afternoon, you can head over to the competitively priced Al Sorriso Italian Bistro and Pizzeria in just 10 minutes. You can pick up traditional lasagna or pasta with Mediterranean vegetables for under £9 once you’ve worked up an appetite from all that walking around. As for accommodation, Travelodge is a good bet - the Birmingham Hilton Park M6 Southbound branch is just 20 minutes’ drive from the course, and prices are as low as £36.99 per night if you shop smartly.

The cheapest travel will be by car if you’re coming from elsewhere in the UK. For example, those in Plymouth going to Wolverhampton will pay just over £30 in fuel according to the RAC Mileage Calculator. If you got the train, you’d have to pick your day carefully to avoid paying over £140, but even then the best prices are just over £70 - with a change or two, as well.

Leeds Golf Centre, West Yorkshire - £7 For 6-Hole Footgolf

Leeds Golf Centre is a great place for those who want to experience the greenery in West Yorkshire, as well as try something new. There are three types of course to choose from - the biggest is Wike Ridge, which is 18 holes long. For a smaller version, check out The Oaks, which has 12 holes. Alternatively, you can have a go at a completely different challenge by heading over to the Footgolf course.

You can find competitive prices for tee times if you browse the booking tool carefully. For example, if you want to try out Wike Ridge, you can grab a slot from just £12. Even if you get one for £20, this is still a good deal considering you get woodland scenery, bunkers galore and plenty of water hazards to add a fun challenge to your gameplay. The best bargain, though, is found with the Footgolf course. You’ll pay just £7 for 6 holes and £10 for 12.

Your best bet for decently priced accommodation during your trip is in the city centre. For example, the Brookfield Hotel is available for prices such as £45, and the Premier Inn Leeds City Centre (Wellington Street) will only set you back £47 per night on average. As for food, the Wike Ridge Inn is just a minute away from your golf game and provides a breakfast roll for £2.50, eggs and toast for £3.50 and a full breakfast - known as The Full Wike - for just £7.50.

If you’re going up to Leeds from London, driving will cost you around £30 but you can save some cash if you’re willing to take the scenic route and go by Megabus. Going from London Victoria to Leeds York Street is just £9.99. Bear in mind you’ll need to find a taxi or bus to get from there to the golf course, though.

Brentwood Golf Club, Essex - Get Cracking At 5am For Just £10

Head east for a day of golf in Essex, available at the Brentwood Golf Club - formerly known as the Weald Park Golf Club. You’ll find an 18 hole course available to book, with electronic buggies on hand for easy transport between holes. There are fun challenges to enjoy during the game, such as water features, a picturesque woodland background and undulating fairways.

Booking is easily done online, and the tee times are well-priced. To play the full course, tee times are available for £10 per person, and up to 4 players are permitted per group. Most of the slots are available for booking online, and you can book from as early as 5:40am. What’s more, there is a mobile app available which provides money-saving features such as a loyalty programme and a members saving hub called Golf Save.

If you’ve been up bright and early for your golf, check out the Green Man for your lunch if you want something quick, easy and well-priced. Bargain options include £5.50 sandwiches, £6.95 jacket potatoes and £9.95 baguettes. As for somewhere to sleep, why not head to the Travelodge Brentwood East Horndon just off the A127 - average prices are just £42 a night.

It’s likely you’d be travelling here from further afield, so those who would come from Manchester will get the best travel price by driving. The average fuel price is just over £30, while the train would cost over £70 - and that’s if you find a good deal. Buses and coaches will only go to London, so you’ve got a hassle getting over to Brentwood from there.
