In the rolling Andalusian hills between Malaga and Marbella, the former Byblos Hotel – a hedonistic icon and jet-set favourite of the 80s and 90s – reopened in Autumn 2022 following a complete transformation. Led by the renowned architectural studio Esteva i Esteva, La Zambra’s white-washed design carefully retains its sense of place and the spirit of fun and freedom that personified the original hotel. At the heart of the La Zambra experience is MOOD Spa, one of the largest in southern Spain. The extensive wellness area features 12 treatment rooms, a circuit area with two dynamic pools and one 15m swimming pool, large relaxation area, sauna with Turkish baths, sauna, ice bath, jacuzzi and outdoor gym. Guests can also enjoy the adults-only infinity pool with sweeping views of the undulating hills, two tennis courts, a paddle court and Kid’s Club with its own outdoor pool.

For the keen golfer, meanwhile, hotel guests have special access to two world-class golf courses: Los Olivos and Los Lagos, by the renowned designer Robert Trent Jones, who has built more than 400 courses around the world. Nearby, there are more than a dozen other superb courses, including Santana Golf and Chaparral Golf Club.

La Zambra’s restaurants offer an exciting introduction to the rich cuisine of Southern Spain – from tapas style feasts paired with the world’s fine wines at Picador; Mediterranean flavours and seafood cooked on the spot alongside healthy and plant-based options all day, at Palmito; fabulous cocktails at Bamboleo; and a true ‘chiringuito’ beach bar experience at La Bartola, for poolside snacks and family lunches.
