I've been buying quite a few things over the past 6 months. You have to remember that they add 20% VAT to everything (including any postage). There's been the odd couple of things I've had issues with. Half of them have been sorted no problem but half I'm still having problems getting my money back. I certainly wouldn't buy anything over £10, just in case. I also check on Amazon and eBay and some of the things are even cheaper there plus you've got added protection.
I recommend always using PayPal for added payment protection. Whilst I've always had good experience with AliExpress customer service, PayPal will normally give you a refund without any problem.
Hi I have had a couple of claims with PayPal and not received a penny they have always refused so they are not that good .@Tom
I ordered stuff in summer and not yet received either items anyone else struggling with Ali express since brexit came into place
AliExpress has a 15-day dispute money-back guarantee. Speak to their customer service, they'll raise the dispute with the seller, and if you don't have your refund within 15 days AliExpress will sort it.
Nays why does everyone blame brevit, there is a global shipping crisis , guess that must also be brexits fault
HardWoodNo1 Because of Brexit you have to pay 20% more! Before they have really good prices.
PolskaLondynka EU members have to pay taxes on their Ali purchases too, and iirc there are some countries that charge extra tax per pack which is why Ali combines them. I Miss the VAT days
Ali express is useful if you know in advance, due to the long waiting times. But I am happy with them and any issues their customer service are helpful. Worth a look for the deals
Had good and bad times with Ali express, but I wouldnt buy anything to expensive just in case. Try and look at people's reviews with pictures included before you purchase and check the full price when the shipping etc is added as sometimes it's cheaper on eBay as they will have UK sellers with the same imported goods
Ive had mainly positive dealings with them, but Ive only ever ordered small items that I dont mind waiting for. They definitely arent as cheap as they were before brexit.
Willing to give it a try now that you guys have recommended it with a good service always makes a huge difference.
Thanks for sharing. They used have really good prices. But you have to wait few months for delivery and now they add 20% Vat after Brexit.
Nice one, thanks for sharing! I'll look for an mp3 to use in my car. Hope to get something under £10
I´ve been shopping with Aliexpress for about four years. I have products shipped to Spain, England and Ireland, never had a problem. One item never arrived and I received a refund straight away. Most sellers keep you informed if there are delays (before and after Brexit). The products have increased in price since Brexit, but still really economical and don´t forget always tick the "free shipping" box if you´re not in a hurry.
Hello Liverpoolgirl, sorry it´s taken me so long to get back to you, only seen this today!!
If you look at the tope of the page "All the Categories, price min and max, send from etc.
There´s a box you can tick that says "free shipping/post" and you´ll get the items sent free of postal charges.
Ordered from them for few years lots of crafting supplies and stocking fillers only ever had one item not arrive contacted and refunded straight away
It's a Shame almost everything we purchase these day's come from China, they plunder everything, I try to buy products made in other countries, but they are very, very difficult to find. Just my opinion only.
It's been ages since I bought anything from this site. Definitely worth having a look again though
I've bought quite a few things from aliexpress. To be honest if you dont mind a 2 to 3 week on average (allot longer depending upon the shipping method they use), you can save a ton. Was better before brexit and additional tax we pay now. Which came in on new years eve last year. Having said that, i think even the eu has put vat onto goods coming from china. Still waiting for 18650 batteries i order before thee mods (like i said some sellers choices of shipping are crap).
The best time to buy things is on the 11..11 sale. Not everyone participates in this sale, but you get even bigger discounts. Just had to vape mods turn up in just over a week half to two.
My advice. Do your research on the product you might be thinking of getting from them . Read reviews, and read quite a few. Check on google, to see if there are videos etc. Work out the final price=price +vat ontop of it. Then rest is down to your decision.
Thanks for all the extra info. TBH I've brought items from both Amazon & eBay in the past that were from China, yes delivery was slow but each product was as described & what I wanted. I think I'll have a good look at what Ali Express have got to offer after reading your review
So I've looked at Ali Express before but the cheap prices & the fact most thing's came from China put me off.
However having read some of these review's (including Tom's Tip's) I've decided to give them a chance on a few small items
Thanks Tom & Latest deals, I find your daily offer's really helpful & the members reviews are honest & usually quite helpful
It`s reallu huge discount for some items in this offer, specially this silver ring. I`m thinking about order it;)
I have been buying from AliExpress for many years. 95% of the time there is not any problems. Any issues that I have had have been quickly resolved. If you are in a hurry to receive your items then this is not for you.
Absolutely terrible cs when raising dispute against a seller.
I'd rather pay a few quid more and have some sort of guarantee. Also avoid buying anything over 10 pounds. Just not worth the hassle.
I wouldn’t dream of buying anything from this site they either never show or they’re faulted and broken not worth the hassle
Im buying on Aliexpress since 2015 and I never had any issue, as you can always open a dispute.
Lots of mixed reviews here, it looks good but I’ve been ‘robbed’ before so don’t think I will chance it! Especially if you pay VAT on everything, I would rather have peace of mind and pay a little extra from sites I know are good. Thank you anyway, it’s worth a look. Xxxxxxxx
As I understand the position, we can make a purchase up to £39 including p&p without having to pay any VAT or fees.
The Royal Mail website advises the following:
1.VAT will be applied depending on the type and value of the goods.
2.VAT on items under £135 (with the exception of gifts) will now be collected directly at the point of sale.
3.For goods with a value over £135 and gifts over £39, customs charges will continue to be applied on behalf of HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).
4.Royal Mail will collect these directly from the buyer prior to delivery.
5.Royal Mail is required by law to present all items arriving in the UK to Border Force. This mail may be checked by them and be subject to customs charges.
6.Any charges are calculated and applied on behalf of HMRC. The charges depend on the contents, where the item came from and who sent it. Letters, postcards and parcels containing only documents are normally exempt.
7.For items sent through the post, Royal Mail pay HMRC any import VAT and Customs Duty on the buyer's behalf. This ensures they receive the item as quickly as possible.
8.Royal Mail then sends the buyer a Fee to pay card. This shows how much they need to pay before they can receive the item. The amount will include an £8 handling fee.
9.The item cannot be released until the charges and fees are paid in full.
Thats incorrect assumption. That was older rules. Since brexit, your getting charged vat on every purchase you make outside of uk territory. I did explain this in my previous posting.
I cant not say about higher valued goods of over £100. From my understanding, you are suppose to be charged by the post office for extra vat.
I have purchased a few mods, and I have paid nothing on them. As AliExpress applied the vat in addition to the sale price.
People in glasses houses shouldn't throw stones, or in this case quote from hmrc out of date post. This was the previous rules.
