As the colder weather sets in, coming home to a warm meal is becoming more appealing - and one savvy shopper has revealed how to do so whilst making some huge savings in Morrisons, Waitrose and ASDA.

Jo Bohm, aged 36 from Isle of Wight and mum of two children aged 9 and 12, told money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk: ‘I am always on the lookout for yellow stickers and love picking up bargains which help me save money on family meals. I tend to pick up the best bargains from Waitrose, Morrisons and ASDA.

‘The other week I picked up a huge haul in Waitrose, all yellow stickers. These included pork cocktail sausages reduced from £3.25 to 90p, Cauldron Tandoori Bites marked down from £2.25 to 79p, Quorn Mozzarella & Pesto Escalopes for £1.09 instead of £3 and Mexicana cheese reduced to 42p from £2. I must have saved at least £20!

‘Another recent trip, this time to Morrisons, resulted in another good haul. I picked up British Pork & Spanish Chorizo Meatballs for £1 instead of £4, saving £3 - a great saving considering how many meals they can go towards. I also got three Jamaican Chicken Patties for 9p each instead of 90p. This means I paid just 27p instead of £2.70!

‘I was also fortunate enough to pick up a ham hock, mushroom and cheddar quiche from the Deli for just 25p instead of £1. Plus there were some pitta breads in the bakery section for 19p instead of 75p. When I went back to the meat section on my way to the till I noticed some sausages which were 36p instead of £1.70, and bacon for 36p reduced from £1.20, so I grabbed those too!

‘ASDA is also a great place to pick up bargains, the last time I went I picked up cheesecakes down to 35p from £3.50 and prawns down to £1.50 from £3. These were great for making meals with, for example with the prawns we made a pasta dish with vegetables and we used the cheesecakes for my son’s birthday party.

‘The quiche, chicken patties and pitta breads were all used for lunches, and the meatballs and pasta were used for an evening meal, so nothing goes to waste. Anything I don’t use right away goes into the freezer. If you’re flexible with your menu and keep a list of what you have in the freezer then you know what bits you need to buy to make a full meal.

‘It’s always possible to find bargains if you know where to look - and when. Shops will have certain times at the end of the day when they begin reducing items. Visit your local supermarkets at different times until you figure out the best time to visit.

‘The best bargains are often located in a special discount section, but some stores will have reduced items available as you walk up and down the aisles. Look at labels which indicate the item is reduced or on clearance either on the shelf or stuck to the product.

‘I also find discounts by going to money-saving websites for discount codes. It’s always worth checking if you can get cash back on a purchase from Quidco. By combining all of these tricks I have saved loads of money over time.’
